‘Quality’… Ben Davies says Tottenham have a seriously quick 22-year-old who will only get better

Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies has admitted he is expecting more to come from a 22-year-old at the club.

Premier League football has been halted for the final international break of the season.

It is a break which Spurs will not welcome on the back of their dismal defeat on the road to Fulham.

However, Ben Davies has taken the opportunity to hail one of his teammates during his time with the Wales national side.

Ben Davies impressed by Brennan Johnson so far

It was a slow start to life at Tottenham for Brennan Johnson having made a big money move from Nottingham Forest in the summer.

However, in recent weeks, the 22-year-old has been able to put in some improved performances under Ange Postecoglou.

Seven of his 10 goal contributions have come in the last 11 Premier League games – three in his last three.

But Davies has admitted he is still expecting a lot more to come from his compatriot as he continues his development with the club. He said: “He is pulling out results, scoring goals and getting assists. He offers a lot of pace, he is very direct and has a knack for being in the right place at the right time.

“He has taken it in his stride, and we will see a better and better player coming. If he can bring that quality into a Welsh shirt for us we will be very happy.”

What Johnson did towards Aston Villa fans recently

Johnson’s form of late has been impressive and he was able to produce in Tottenham’s biggest game of the season against Aston Villa.

After James Maddison opened the scoring, Johnson was able to add a quick fire second.

The Welshman wheeled away in celebration towards the travelling Spurs fans and even took the time to shush the home crowd on his way.

Although Johnson has been in fine form recently, the game against Fulham was not his best display.

And it was a performance which even saw him receive some heavy criticism from TalkSPORT’s Gabriel Agbonlahor.

The former Villa man suggested the 22-year-old isn’t good enough to be starting for a side like Spurs.

He said: “They need a top number nine, Son on the left, Kulusevski on the right. Werner and Johnson coming off the bench. They shouldn’t be starting games for Spurs in the Premier League, for me.”

Although it was a poor display from Johnson, no Spurs players walked away from Craven Cottage with much credit.

Even Heung-min Son endured a game to forget. So judging the 22-year-old – who’s been excellent of late – on that display feels extremely harsh.
