‘Unbelievable’: Ally McCoist stunned after hearing recent claim about £34m Liverpool player

Ally McCoist has reacted to a recent claim made about Mohamed Salah leaving Liverpool this summer.

Liverpool are already preparing for life without Jurgen Klopp as the German is set to leave Anfield this summer.

Following Richards Hughes’ appointment as the club’s new sporting director, the Reds are stepping up their search for Klopp’s successor.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi and Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim feature on their list of preferred targets. But the new man who takes over from Klopp in the summer may have to prepare for life without Mohamed Salah.

The Liverpool star is expected to emerge as a priority target for the Saudi Pro League once again this summer and former Premier League striker Mido made an interesting claim about his future yesterday.

“I know there have been maybe a couple of meetings between the Saudi investment group and Liverpool and Salah’s representatives,” Mido told talkSPORT on Wednesday.

“I know that there is a deal in hand for Salah to go to Saudi, especially as he is running out of contract now, he has one more season to go, so I think it’s the right time for everybody, for Liverpool to get some money out of Salah.”

McCoist reacts to claim Salah is set for Saudi move

Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist reacted to Mido’s claim about a deal already being sorted for Salah to move to the Middle East.

“Unbelievable,” the pundit said. “I’ve got to ask you, Gab, what do you think?”

“I think he’s spot on in what he’s saying in the sense that Salah has got one year left [on his contract], if that’s correct,” Gabriel Agbonlahor responded.

“If a club is going to pay over £100 million for a player who’s 32 in June, Jurgen Klopp is leaving, he’s won it all at Liverpool. Won the big two trophies, the Champions League and the Premier League. It just makes sense for Liverpool as well, financially.

“We talk about Financial Fair Play now. Can Liverpool afford to let Mo Salah go on a free transfer the year afterwards? I can’t see it. I think it makes sense and it’s somewhere he would want to go as well.

“He’s done it all at Liverpool, the goals he’s scored, 152 goals in 240 games. It just seems right this summer, doesn’t it?”

“I tell you, I’m just thinking of Liverpool losing Klopp and Salah, incredible,” McCoist added.

Salah to leave Liverpool this summer?

It remains unclear whether or not Salah will be heading out the door this summer.

The £34 million winger has already insisted that Klopp’s imminent exit won’t determine his immediate future at Liverpool.

But after Liverpool knocked back a £150 million bid from Al Ittihad for the 31-year-old last summer, strong interest from the Saudi Pro League remains.

We’re unlikely to see any clarity over Salah’s future before the season ends as Liverpool aim to add a Premier League and Europa League to their Carabao Cup victory this term.
