Ike Ugbo future: Troyes contract, wages, transfer value, and Sheffield Wednesday chances of deal

Sheffield Wednesday unearthed a gem in January loan signing Ike Ugbo.

Since arriving on loan from Ligue 2 side Troyes in January, Ugbo has netted six goals in 11 Championship appearances for Sheffield Wednesday.

The 25-year-old had a fairly uneventful first half of the season on loan with Cardiff City, scoring just four goals in 20 league appearances for the Bluebirds.

But Danny Rohl has managed to unlock Ugbo’s scoring touch, with the Canadian’s strong performances seeing him return to his international team this month.

The Owls would surely be interested in a permanent deal for the striker this summer, and here we break down a potential move…

Ike Ugbo Troyes contract

Lewisham-born Ugbo initially joined Troyes on loan from Genk in 2022, later making his stay permanent.

He signed a four-year deal with Troyes and remains under contract until the summer of 2026.

Ike Ugbo wages

There’s no clear indication of how much Ugbo earns at Troyes or how much Sheffield Wednesday are currently paying him.

Though previous reports have claimed that Ugbo earns an impressive €48,000 per month, which equates to little over £10,000 per week.

As per Salary Sport, Sheffield Wednesday’s highest-paid, permanent player is Barry Bannan who earns £23,000 per week.

Ike Ugbo transfer value

Transfermarkt value Ugbo at €2.8million, or £2.4million, whereas FootballTransfers values Ugbo at €3.6million, or £3.08million.

Can Sheffield Wednesday sign Ike Ugbo on a permanent basis

It would certainly be an ambitious move for Sheffield Wednesday to try and pull off,

First and foremost, the Owls would surely need Championship football to stand any chance of signing Ugbo this summer; he’s now scored 10 Championship goals for Cardiff and Wednesday this season, proving his worth in the second tier.

Secondly, the potential transfer value could be a real hurdle for Sheffield Wednesday.

Whilst the above transfer values could be taken with a pinch of salt, it may be safe to assume that Ugbo, given the length of his Troyes contract and his goal-scoring exploits in recent weeks, would command at least a seven-figure fee.

And Sheffield Wednesday are well-known to be struggling with their financials, and with no assets to sell on for big money, having any spending money at all this summer may be hopeful.

But a couple of positives for the Owls could the fact that Troyes are struggling in Ligue 2 right now.

They sit just a couple of points and a couple of places above the Ligue 2 drop zone with nine games left to play, and relegation to the French third tier could make it very difficult for them to keep Ugbo as he’s shown in the English second tier that he’s capable of scoring goals.

Lastly, with regards to wages, Sheffield Wednesday have several high-earners currently out of contract in the summer including Josh Windass and Liam Palmer among others, so there’s likely to be a big reduction in the wage bill this summer which could make way for one or two signings of Ugbo’s calibre.

And having performed so well at Sheffield Wednesday, if Rohl stays and maybe Ian Poveda signs permanently, Ugbo may fancy staying as well with Rohl and his teammates getting the best out of him.

All in all, whilst Ugbo to Sheffield Wednesday is certainly hopeful, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility.
