'Very strange': Bruno Guimaraes now shares what has completely shocked him about Newcastle this season

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has now explained why the club are struggling so much this season.

The 26-year-old has refused to hide his disappointment, as he prepares to represent Brazil against England on Saturday night. He will be in action at Wembley, where he is hoping to face is Newcastle United teammate Anthony Gordon.

After the international break, Bruno Guimaraes will turn his attention back to the Premier League. He says that the Magpies have 10 games to save their season, as they aim to qualify for Europe.

It is going to be a pivotal end to the season, and there is a chance it could have a happy conclusion if Eddie Howe’s side finish the campaign strongly.

So far, it has been incredibly frustrating. Newcastle have not hit the heights expected of them, and Bruno believes the big reason why they have struggled so much is injuries and suspensions.

Bruno Guimaraes expected Newcastle to endure tough season

Bruno has been speaking to the media about Newcastle’s season whilst on international duty, and told the Hayters TV YouTube channel that he expected the Magpies to struggle at some point.

“This season we have been struggling,” he said.

“I think we have many problems with injuries and suspensions. This is part of the process. When I signed for the club, I knew that this would happen. I think things happened too quickly. In my two years we’ve got to a final – unfortunately we did not win. But we got to the Champions League after 20 years. It was massive for the club.

“This season we have been struggling because of the injuries and the suspensions. I’ve never been at a club with this type of injuries. Some injuries have been very, very strange.

“To be honest, I’m a little bit disappointed, but I knew that this would happen.”

Bruno’s attitude towards Newcastle’s struggles is very mature

Given how good Bruno is – Eddie Howe says he’s world class – it would be understandable if he was throwing his toys out of the pram over Newcastle’s season. He is a Champions League calibre player, and should not be sitting 10th in the Premier League.

But he understands that the club are where they are because of injuries, while the suspension to Sandro Tonali has also been a major issue. And, more importantly, he appreciates that a regression was always likely. Given how well we did last season, there was no way Newcastle could replicate it. Even if everyone had stayed fit, it would have been incredibly challenging.

Sure, Bruno is disappointed. So he should be. In truth, every member of the Newcastle squad will be. Eddie Howe would not want it any other way.

But there is a realism and maturity in what Bruno says. This is a project, and not everything is going to go our way.

This season certainly is not going our way, but it is not over yet. Newcastle have 10 games to save themselves, and Bruno will be doing all he can to do just that.
