Report: Liverpool have now asked about signing a defensive midfielder who's actually even slower than Fabinho

Liverpool did a lot of work on their midfield in the last summer transfer window, but the rebuild isn’t quite finished yet.

Indeed, while the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch will likely be key players for years to come, due to his age, Wataru Endo may not be a long-term option.

The Reds do still need that younger model to come in and replace Fabinho.

There have been plenty of players linked with the Merseyside club in recent months, and according to CalcioMercato, the Reds have now asked about signing Teun Koopmeiners from Atalanta.

Liverpool have asked about Teun Koopmeiners

According to this report, the Reds have asked about signing the Dutch midfielder, and they are hoping to get the jump on some of their transfer rivals by opening talks in the near future.

Of course, the Reds are set to face off against Atalanta next month in the Europa League, and that could provide the perfect platform for the Reds to kick off talks with Atalanta and the player’s representatives.

Would Teun Koopmeiners suit Liverpool?

Of course, hearing any link to a new signing is very exciting, but would Koopmeiners actually suit Liverpool as a club?

Well, it’s hard to say.

The Reds are going to completely change as a team next season when Jurgen Klopp leaves, but, right now, we have to say that Koopmeiners may not be a good fit for the Reds.

This current side is all about high energy and speed, and that isn’t where Koopmeiners thrives.

In fact, according to The Speeds Database, Koopmeiners is even slower than Fabinho, and you only had to watch the midfielder’s last season at Anfield to show how his lack of pace affected the team.

Koopmeiners may work well at Liverpool under a new manager, but if the Reds want to continue playing in a similar way to how they do under Klopp, perhaps they should look elsewhere.
