Report: Whether Bruno Guimaraes is going to start for Brazil against England on Saturday night

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is preparing for his second ever appearance at Wembley this weekend, but sadly it will not be in a Toon kit.

Bruno Guimaraes made his Wembley debut just over a year ago, when Newcastle United were beaten in the Carabao Cup final by Manchester United.

The Magpies will not be heading back this year after their FA Cup dream came to an end last weekend, but Bruno is at least getting the chance to play at the national stadium.

That is because Brazil are taking on England in a friendly, as both nations continue their preparations for major tournaments this summer. Brazil will be competing in the Copa America, while it is the European Championship for the Three Lions.

The two countries meet at Wembley on Saturday night, and a report from Brazil has shared whether or not Bruno can expect to start for the Selecao.

Bruno Guimaraes to start for Brazil against England

According to Globo Esporte, Bruno is going to be part of the Brazil starting XI against England this weekend.

They state that he will be in a midfield three alongside two other Premier League players – his close friend Lucas Paqueta, who he would love Newcastle to sign, and Wolves star Joao Gomes.

It is not a major surprise to see Bruno set to start against England. The 26-year-old was on media duty earlier this week ahead of the game, where he spoke about Newcastle’s season and why it has disappointed him.

The international break is probably a welcome distraction for the midfielder, who will win his 19th Brazil cap on Saturday. He made his debut for his country back in 2020.

Bruno could face Newcastle teammate Anthony Gordon

While Bruno is set to start for Brazil, it is unclear if he will compete against his Newcastle United teammate Anthony Gordon.

The 23-year-old is in the England squad for the game, but it remains to be seen if Gareth Southgate will hand him his debut.

He will be hoping so, while he is extra keen to take on Bruno at Wembley – even if he has admitted he will struggle to get close to him.

They will be the only Newcastle players involved at Wembley on Saturday night, but there could have been a lot more had it not been for injury. The likes of Joelinton, Kieran Trippier, Nick Pope and Callum Wilson all could have been involved, but they remain unavailable for selection due to injury.
