Wolves star Joao Gomes sends message after making Brazil debut v England, Cunha and Neto respond

There was a very proud moment for Wolves star Joao Gomes last night, as the Wolves star made his senior debut for Brazil against England.

The 23-year-old was rewarded with a call-up by Dorival Junior recently, after a string of impressive displays under Gary O’Neil at Molineux.

He has been brilliant in the midfield alongside Mario Lemina and as such, there has recently been some speculation that Manchester United are now keen on him.

Last night, he was selected to start in Brazil’s midfield against England at Wembley, and that certainly brought about a spotlight.

But Gomes did well and after the game, he sent a message on social media to mark the occasion…

There had been whispers that Gomes was going to get minutes against England on Saturday.

But there were a few raised eyebrows when the teamsheets came through to show that he was actually starting against the Three Lions.

He played in midfield along with fellow Premier League stars Lucas Paqueta and Bruno Guimaraes.

Brazi ended up winning the game 1-0 thanks to a goal late on by substitute Endrick – and Gomes put in a very respectable display in the engine room.

It was a typically combative display from Gomes, who provided lots of energy in the middle of the park against the likes of Jude Bellingham, Conor Gallagher and Declan Rice.

Sofascore data shows that he complete 23/28 passes (82%), three interceptions and four ball recoveries.

After the game, he took to Instagram to mark the proud occasion, saying: “Thank you to the whole group for the way they welcomed me and especially for the respect, I will never forget this moment.”

Several players commented, including two Wolves stars. Pedro Neto left some heart eyes emojis, while Matheus Cunha said ‘You played really well Joaozinho’.

This is just the start for Gomes

It was fantastic see Joao Gomes making his debut for Brazil against England, and it is no less than he deserves given how good he’s been for Wolves lately.

It was also really nice to see him actually playing a full game. Clearly, he has already made a big impression on Dorival Junior.

Gomes’ pride about making his debut for Brazil is crystal clear, and one suspects that he will go on to have many more proud moments in his career.

Wolves’ midfield dynamo – who Dave Edwards believes is Molineux’s best ball-winner ever – really does have the potential to become very special.
