Newcastle identify sporting director who found Enzo Fernandez as possible Dan Ashworth replacement

Newcastle United have identified yet another possible option to replace Dan Ashworth as their sporting director.

It’s been over a month since Ashworth announced he would be leaving the club to join Man United though the move has not been finalised just yet and Newcastle are still looking for their long-term replacement.

With a number of names being linked in the last few weeks, The Times are now reporting that Benfica director Rui Pedro Braz is the latest name to be mentioned in the conversation.

Newcastle find another candidate to replace Ashworth

Newcastle have been linked with names like Paul Mitchell and Tiago Pinto very recently, though it’s understood that their list of Ashworth replacements is quite long and there’s likely still a number of candidates who are yet to be named.

Rui Pedro Baz has previously been linked with the job at Tottenham last year, though nothing ever came of the rumours and he remained in his role at the Portuguese giants.

Now, it is Newcastle who are considering a move for the 45-year-old director who was the man responsible for discovering Enzo Fernandez before he enjoyed a breakthrough season during the World Cup year.

Braz initially started out as a commentator and football analyst before moving into the director role where has had to seek out some young and unknown talents to bring to the club, something Newcastle are trying to do under their new regime.

Newcastle need to find a solution soon

There will be no panic from Newcastle who have had to deal without having a director during a transfer window before when Eddie Howe was heavily involved in recruitment in the first January after he was hired.

However, the ideal scenario would be to find the perfect Ashworth replacement who can get to work as soon as possible and help Newcastle navigate through a very important window this summer.

With so much to do in terms of bringing new faces in as well as keeping the star players at the club, it’s imperative that they make the right decision and identify the best candidate for the job.

The thing about having the wealthiest owners in football does mean you’re not going to be lacking options as potential directors, but it does give them a lot of work to do in filtering through the best ones.
