How Andrew Omobamidele performed for Republic of Ireland

After losing his place in the Forest team last week for the trip to Luton Town, Omobamidele will have welcome the chance to start for his country.

The player signed for Forest in the summer with the defender making a last-minute switch to the Reds from Norwich City on deadline day.

Last night saw a vastly improved performance from the Republic of Ireland and Omobamidele appeared to grasp his chance to impress interim manager John O’Shea.

He was given a 7/10 for his performance by theIrish Mirror and it would appear as though he looked comfortable throughout the contest.

They said of his display: “He was composed on the ball, willing to put his body on the line to stop Belgium causing damage.”

Elsewhere,The Irish Sun gave him a 6/10 and said: “His pace was a huge asset with his fellow defenders unafraid to push up knowing he was behind them. Assured on the ball.”

A 0-0 might be considered a successful night for the Republic of Ireland and Forest star Omobamidele – but it should have been a win.

Reds goalkeeper Sels stole the show by saving a 28th-minute penalty from Evan Ferguson to earn Belgium a draw from the contest.

Omobamidele is going to be the future at Forest

At 21-years-old, Omobamidele does look like an ideal signing for Forest and represents the sort of addition the club needs to make more often.

The central defender has a burst of pace and isn’t afraid to carry the ball out from the back – making him an asset to Nuno Espirito Santo.

Against Liverpool, he was recalled to the team and didn’t disappoint. Omobamidele made eight clearances during the Forest defeat and he caught the eye.

As a young player, he will make mistakes. However, they are few and far between and the more games he plays the better he will become.

Last night was another game in the bank for the defender. Now, Omobamidele will have his eyes on getting his shirt back when Forest play Crystal Palace next weekend.
