Chris Rigg steps up on international duty
Sunderland fans have not had much to shout about in 2024. Their dreams of promotion to the Premier League have all but diminished as their Mike Dodds drags them to the finish line.
However, one bright spark in recent months has been Chris Rigg. The 16-year-old academy graduate has pushed himself into the first-team picture and clearly has bundles of potential.
Now, he is showcasing his talents outside the Stadium of Light as he captained England U17s to two wins in the European qualifiers.

Jack Clarke replacements
With the season now all but over, fans are already thinking about the next campaign. One such area with be transfers and how the squad might shape up for the 2024/25 season.
Sadly, it looks like star man Clarke may be off in the summer. Lazio has been reportedly interested in Clarke since January, with many other Premier League clubs also circling.
Therefore, Sunderland AFC News have identified three potential candidates that the Black Cats could bring in to replace their star man. One is Morgan Whittaker, the Plymouth sensation who has shone since their promotion to the Championship.

Niall Huggins’ season appears to be over
One big reason for Sunderland’s downfall in 2024 has been injuries. The Black Cats have seen multiple players in the starting XI fall to the sidelines due to injuries.
Niall Huggins has been one victim. The defender has been out since just before Christmas and played under Dodds in his interim run back in December.
However, according to his agent, he will not be back before the end of the season.
