Exclusive: Leicester City summer transfer plans amid FFP situation now becomes clearer

Leicester City have dominated the footballing media in recent weeks, though, not for the rights reasons as they contend with a Profit and Sustainability (PSR) charge.

The Foxes have been charged by the Premier League for breaching PSR during the 2022/23 season, the year they suffered relegation from the top flight.

Leicester may well be in line to breach the regulations again this season, though, they have until the end of the financial year (June) to raise the necessary funds.

That has led many to believe the club could move on multiple assets, so Leicester City News sat down with HITC journalist Graeme Bailey to get all the latest.

Enzo Maresca faces an uncertain summer and may have to operate in a totally different market than a year prior.

Given the club’s FFP breach and the potential second one, it seems as though the Italian head coach will be cash-strapped.

Asked what Leicester’s summer may look like, Bailey said: “Obviously totally dependant on promotion, which obviously they hope.

“They’ll assess it, again it will depend on who they can keep and who they can’t keep. The same happened to Forest, so the ballpark is laid out to know what they need to do and what they can’t do.

“So it will have some impact on the window, certainly. But I guess even Leicester don’t know quite yet and it depends on what the manager wants, they would’ve had those discussions already but they need to secure that promotion first.”

The transfer expert also spoke on whether the club would operate in the loan market: “Ideally not for them but they might have to do a few more loans, especially in their first season back to find their legs again, that might be part of their thinking.”

Leicester must remained focus on the Championship

It’s been a tricky couple of weeks for the football club, both on and off the pitch.

But Maresca must get his side back to winning ways and block out the external noise, which could be distracting the players.

Leicester have been dragged back into the chasing pack and their promotion hopes are now in real jeopardy.

It seems if the East Midlanders do gain promotion back to the Premier League, their PSR concerns would certainly ease, somewhat.

They travel to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City this Friday before playing host to play-off hopefuls Norwich City at King Power Stadium the following Monday.
