'Excellent': National media impressed by £12m Arsenal player on international duty last night

One Arsenal player delivered another incredibly impressive performance for his country whilst away last night.

Mikel Arteta will be watching these international games with bated breath, simply hoping they all return injury free and ready for the monumental battle against Manchester City on Sunday.

And whilst Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Magalhaes have already withdrawn from their respective national team camps, their injuries aren’t thought to be serious.

Although one or two will still be lacking a bit of match sharpness, right now it seems that Arteta will have the vast majority of his squad to choose from heading into the ‘business end’ of the season.

That being said, there will be one or two selection dilemmas for Arteta, something he’ll welcome.

And judging by the superb display Jorginho delivered for Italy against Ecuador last night, there’s little justification for Arsenal to drop the midfielder from the XI when they travel to City.

Jorginho played 67 minutes in the middle, and was hailed for how he ‘expertly’ controlled the midfield by Italian media.

Italian outlet OA Calcio shared their verdict on Jorginho’s performance in the 2-0 win.

The website reported: “He controls the manoeuvre expertly, especially in the first half with a couple of excellent plays.”

It seems as if Jorginho’s display was on the low key side of things by his standards, but yet he was still so quietly effective.

According to Sofascore, Jorginho won five duels in the middle, made 35 touches and completed 93% of his 29 passes.

An experienced display from a player who Arsenal will probably lean on again alongside Declan Rice on Sunday.

Although Thomas Partey is now available and gaining fitness, it seems best advised for Jorginho to keep his spot – a sentence you’d never believe at the start of the season.

But as the Arsenal midfielder showed in his performance for Italy last night, there’s just a certain guarantee to his game right now, he’s a cog you simply can’t leave out.

Perhaps the £12m-man won’t be needed for the entire game, but his calmness would benefit Arsenal from the beginning.

All that being said, perhaps one midfielder proved why Arsenal are interested in signing him with his latest display for his country.
