Report: Wolves now eyeing 'astonishing' striker who's already been compared to Raul Jimenez

Wolves are reportedly showing interest in Mexican starlet Stephano Carrillo, who has already drawn comparisons with Molineux icon Raul Jimenez.

Wolves have found success in recent times buying young players with big potential.

Over the past few years the likes of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Joao Gomes and Tommy Doyle have come to the club, and stand to become top players.

There is a focus for Wolves on discovering potential gems, and developing them into players who will potentially make the club big money in the transfer market.

Following the signing of Gomes in January 2023, it was reported that Wolves were keen to bring in players of a similar profile – raw and unpolished, with the potential to become special.

And it could be that Wolves have identified another top prospect…

It was reported yesterday by MASFichajes that Wolves are now showing interest in Stephano Carrillo, and 18-year-old Mexico youth international who plays for Santos Laguna in the Liga MX.

It is reported by the publication that the starlet is ‘making waves and promises to be the next big star in world football’.

He recently really caught the eye at the U17s World Cup, where he scored three goals in four appearances.

Carrillo actually has a superb goalscoring record with the Mexico U17s, having plundered 15 goals in 19 games. He had a particularly good CONCACAF Championship in February of last year, scoring eight goals in six games.

What’s more, Carrillo is already drawing comparisons to strikers who have made their mark in the game.

The original report says Carrillo is a bit like Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez as he has a ‘robust physique’ and ‘surprising speed’. He’s also said to shoot with ‘astonishing precision’, which is perhaps not something people associate with Nunez.

But there have, perhaps inevitably, also been comparisons to Wolves icon Raul Jimenez.

Santos Laguna director Guillerme Hernandez said of him (ESPN Deportes): “In size and individual technique, Stephano has a resemblance to Raul Jimenez. He is a player who attracts attention because of his quality and his strength. He’s a very strong guy and I think he has the qualities to go far, as long as he follows the line he has so far, with a lot of discipline, a lot of order, plus he trains very well.”

Carrillo one to watch

Carrillo seems on course to become a very exciting player in the future.

His goalscoring record at youth level is impressive, and the comparisons to the likes of Nunez and former Wolves number nine Jimenez are encouraging.

It is stated that Wolves have shown a ‘real interest’ in the teenager, and it’s very possible the club will want to do a deal.

The idea he could be a ‘new Jimenez’ is bound to appeal, given what a brilliant player he was for Wolves.

We know there is a focus for Wolves on bringing young talent to Molineux and so, fans should certainly keep an eye out for developments with Carrillo.
