'Delivered': National media are raving about Nottingham Forest gem after last night's masterclass

Nottingham Forest winger Giovanni Reyna has played just 39 minutes of action since arriving at the City Ground. Despite a lack of action, he was still called up for the USMNT for their Nations League fixtures.

Reyna was an eye-catching addition to the Forest ranks when he joined from Dortmund on loan in January. The Reds were cutting their cloth accordingly and chose to take the 21-year-old on loan.

For whatever reason, Reyna hasn’t been able to get into the Forest team just yet. He’s not started a single fixture and has been forced to stake his claim with a number of substitute appearances.

Playing football is literally all Reyna is striving to do right now. He’s left Dortmund where he wasn’t playing and he must be seriously annoyed that he’s not getting a look in at Forest.

Last night, Reyna managed to get himself a reprieve by playing for his country. He was able to relax and do what he does best which is play well and register goal contributions.

How Giovanni Reyna player for USMNT against Mexico

It was a night to remember for the United States and Reyna as they won the Concacaf Nations League. Forest gem Reyna netted the second goal in a 2-0 victory and was praised afterwards.

Matt Turner raved about his Forest teammate for his performance on Instagram. Furthermore, Reyna also received some pretty kind words from the national media.

NBC Sports gave him a 7/10 and said: “Asked to play a deeper role. Delivered. Racked up three clearances and four recoveries. Lost several physical battles but scored some victories by not shying away from any of them in an ornery nature we often saw from his legendary father in the centre of a USMNT park.”

After the game, Reyna was named as the Best Player from the Nations League, with Turner winning the award for Best Goalkeeper.

Intriguingly, neither player is currently playing regularly for Forest. In the way of Turner, it’s easy to understand why, but it’s proving a complete mystery why Nuno Espirito Santo isn’t picking him.

Will Reyna get a chance to star for Forest?

Well, it’s fair to say that he’s now running out of time to make a difference at Forest. The Reds have just nine games remaining and it really is a case of now or never for Espirito Santo.

His form for the USMNT has been fantastic during the Nations League campaign. With Forest short of goals, it’s pretty baffling why the head coach hasn’t given him a go from the start just yet.

Landing Reyna on loan shouldn’t be underestimated from a Forest perspective. Dortmund view him as a supremely talented player and they have high hopes for him in the future.

Forest can ill afford any further setbacks this season. As a result, it’s now the time for the Reds’ head coach Espirito Santo to give Reyna a proper Forest chance in the coming weeks.
