N.J. 18-year-old killed, girlfriend hurt in I-95 crash in Maryland

An 18-year-old man was killed and his 19-year-old girlfriend was injured in a three-vehicle chain-reaction crash on Interstate 95 in Maryland on Saturday evening, officials said.

Traffic was stopped in the two left lanes on the northbound side of the highway following an earlier crash at about 6:50 p.m. when a car driven by Gage Myers rear-ended an SUV, Maryland State Police said. The SUV then struck another SUV.

Myers, a 2023 graduate of Gloucester City High School, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 19-year-old woman who graduated from the same school in 2022, was hospitalized with injuries, authorities said. The woman’s social media posts identify her as Myers’ girlfriend.

“It is with great sadness that we learned of the tragic loss of one of our Class of 2023 graduates, Gage Myers, Gloucester City High School said in a statement. “Gage was a wonderful young man with a kind heart and handsome, infectious smile.”

A woman and two children in the SUV struck by Myers’ car were also taken to area hospitals with injuries, authorities said

The crash in the town of North East, about 10 miles from the Delaware border, closed the northbound side of the busy interstate for nearly four hours.
