'They asked': Alexander Isak now shares what Newcastle staff text him immediately after Sweden's game last night

Alexander Isak is heading back to Newcastle United with a win and two full 90 minutes under his belt with Sweden.

The 24-year-old kicked off the international break with a quiet display in a 5-2 defeat to Portugal. He did not receive a lot of love from the Swedish media after his performance, but that was true of most of the players in yellow.

Monday night brought another friendly, with Sweden taking on Albania. This time they were able to get the win, with Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side triumphing 1-0.

It was another interesting night for Alexander Isak, as he was once again not used as a striker. In the first game he was an attacking midfielder, and this time he was on the left of attack.

Obviously his preferred position is through the middle as a forward, but the only thing that Newcastle United are concerned about is that he comes back fully fit.

What Newcastle staff text Alexander Isak after Sweden game

And the club made sure to find out how Isak was immediately after he completed another 90 minutes.

That is according to Isak himself, who told Fotbollskanalen what people from Newcastle United text him straight after the game.

“I have many text messages from Newcastle now right after the match,” he said.

“They asked: ‘All good?’. They checked that I finished the match well. The way my season has been, it’s understandable. They probably want me to play as little as possible. But this is also important to us and now it is the national team that matters.

“Eddie has said before that he has great respect for the national team, but it is mostly the physical trainers and the medical team who have asked. But everything went well. I feel fresh and healthy. I’m glad there were no problems.”

Newcastle right to be worried given Isak’s recent comments

The Newcastle United medical staff were quick to find out if Isak was alright, as this has been a tough season physically for him.

He has had a recurring groin problem, and has even spoke about his issues during the international break. Isak admitted that he has probably had to play more than he should, and that is why the problem has not gone away.

After those comments, it was a real surprise to see Isak go for another 90 minutes. Hearts will have been racing on Tyneside, but they will be relieved to know that Isak came through it unscathed.

West Ham up next for Newcastle United’s main man up front

That is excellent news, as Isak is Eddie Howe‘s only fit striker right now. Callum Wilson is still injured, meaning the pressure is on Isak to stay fit and score goals. The latter has not been a problem in fairness, with the Swede boasting 16 goals in all competitions.

He will hope to add to that tally in the coming weeks, starting against West Ham United on Saturday. He scored two goals in the reverse fixture, and received a huge amount of praise for his brace. In truth, it should have been a hat-trick!
