"I don’t want to": Oliver Glasner has just raised the bar at Crystal Palace, world of difference from Roy Hodgson

Things have already changed for the better since Oliver Glasner arrived at Crystal Palace, but his latest comments have just proven that point further.

Crystal Palace are in the midst of a revolution right now, with the change from Roy Hodgson to Oliver Glasner being massive.

Hiring a Europa League-winning coach is a real statement of intent from the Palace board as he won’t settle for just surviving every year, and he’s already having an impact.

This should mean he’s been promised to be backed in the transfer market as he looks to turn Palace into a top-half side or even qualify for European football.

Now, Glasner has shared this view in his own words as he explained he is keen to develop Palace into something more.

Let’s look at what the Selhurst Park Austrian said and what that means for Palace.

What has Oliver Glasner said about his Crystal Palace plans?

Glasner’s most recent interview has shown exactly how big a difference he’s already made at Palace in terms of the mentality at the club.

As quoted by Kicker, Glasner said: “I told the people in charge that if it’s okay for them to continue to finish 16th or 17th and not get relegated, then I’m the wrong manager for that.

I don’t want to maintain the status quo. I want to develop something without tying it to a spot.”

This elevation in terms of mentality is a massive sign of what is to come from Glasner’s Palace and also shows just how much of an improvement he is on Hodgson both in terms of tactics and mentality.

This mentality from Glasner is elite, and what is required for a manager to take a club up a level in the league.

When compared with Hodgson’s claim from before he was sacked, the two are worlds apart in their mentality. “The fans have been spoiled here in recent times,” he said.

This positive change in mentality will affect players and fans and give the club something to be working towards with the goal of improvement in mind.

Hodgson on the other hand gave fans few reasons to be excited or optimistic with his comments, this small change in itself could end up having a massive impact on the club.

Ultimately, Glasner’s comments point to the fact Palace are in line with his view of wanting improvements and being sick of settling for survival. Exciting times ahead.
