Aston Villa now told why they are in a ‘good position’ ahead of the summer

Aston Villa have been told that they are in a favourable position going into the summer transfer window, as Unai Emery looks to strengthen his squad while adhering to financial boundaries.

Aston Villa are braced for a busy summer in the transfer window with Unai Emery and Monchi at the helm.

Last summer, the Villans welcomed five new faces in the form of Moussa Diaby, Youri Tielemans, Nicolo Zaniolo, Clement Lenglet and Pau Torres, with some becoming integral parts of Emery’s squad.

After announcing a £119.6m loss in their end-of-year accounts, it will be interesting to see how the club will navigate the transfer window, with Profitability and Sustainability Rules needing to be met.

It’s both important for Villa to continue their progression and avoid breaching the daunting financial warnings however, despite such pressures, the club have been told that they are in an advantageous position going into the summer.

Aston Villa told why they are in a strong position ahead of the summer

Speaking on the Claret and Blue podcast, journalist and Aston Villa expert John Townley explained his views on Villa’s stance going into the transfer window.

“Villa are in a very good position because our players are good, therefore other teams may think that they’d like to sign some of our players.”

“They may bid for players and Villa aren’t necessarily in a position to just say no to everyone, every player has a price.”

“Villa have control over their player’s future, they have everyone on long-term deals.”

“If any player leaves then it’s for big money and that’s the situation that would help the PSR situation.”

The summer will be crucial to Aston Villa’s progression

Townley’s comments are not wrong, with Villa already said to have players that are attracting interest from wealthy Premier League clubs.

The fact is that the Villans won’t want to, and don’t need to lose their best players however, if a deal could be struck at a high price, Emery and Monchi would then see a door open to consider a high-class player in the market.

It’s critical that the manager improves the depth of his squad in the summer, particularly if the Villans do secure Champions League football, where there will be a lot at stake in the 2024/25 campaign.

The project that the boss is building at Villa Park is thanks to the players he has at his disposal, with the assumption there that a mass exodus isn’t on the cards this summer.

It’s important for the squad to evolve, as Emery will not want his players to feel as though they’ve hit their peak with the club, who have proven just how much they have improved in the short time that the Spaniard has been at the club.

Only time will tell just how Villa plan to approach the transfer window, in what is set to be an interesting period at Villa Park.
