'Could you imagine?': Ian Wright thinks £100m player would break records if he went to Manchester City

Ian Wright has now been sharing his thoughts on a player he thinks could be unbelievably successful if he ever moved to Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side showed a clear preference to invest in their future in the summer, completing deals for the likes of Josko Gvardiol, Jeremy Doku and Claudio Echeverri.

Perhaps outlays for both Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic were more intended for the here and now, but City’s strategy has been clear.

The club recouped good money for Riyad Mahrez (32) and Aymeric Laporte (29) and refreshed their squad as a result.

Of course, it’s no coincidence that City continue to have so much success year after year when they are able to act so effectively in the market.

That being said, Ian Wright has perhaps now earmarked a transfer he thinks would benefit Manchester City no end in the years to come.

Speaking on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast, Wright was discussing the idea of Harry Kane moving to Manchester, should Erling Haaland ever decide to leave the club.

Ian Wright thinks Harry Kane would be astronomically good if he moved to Man City

Speaking on the podcast, Wright was convinced that Kane would break the Premier League goal-scoring record if he ever moved to City, and thought that only a special project would tempt him back.

He explained: “Do you know something, Harry Kane in the right team, he’s not going to come back to somewhere where he’s not going to be on the end of things, getting one touch finishes and stuff like that.

“You don’t know what is going to happen with Haaland, how long he’s going to stay, could you imagine if Haaland left like next season and Harry Kane came to Man City, he could probably do that [become the Premier League’s all time top goal-scorer] in a season.”

And whilst City fans would probably welcome the £100m-striker to the club, they definitely wouldn’t want that to be at the expense of Haaland.

At 23-years-old, Haaland is well on the way to breaking the Premier League goal-scoring record himself should he stay in England for a long time.

The Norwegian has scored 54 goals in 58 Premier League games, compared to Kane’s 213 in 320 games and Alan Shearer’s 260 in 441 appearances.

It’s certainly an illustrious list, and there’s no doubt that Kane would probably go ahead of Shearer if he ever moved to Manchester City as Wright suggests.

All that being said, Andros Townsend has now shared who he believes will win the league this season.
