Exclusive: Tottenham are monitoring ‘special’ Birmingham City player who’s got interest across Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur now have their eyes on another young midfielder following their January signing of Lucas Bergvall.

Ange Postecoglou has already looked to bring in some promising young players since his appointment last summer.

Micky van de Ven is the prime example of that, but Spurs have also sought even younger prospects with the likes of Lucas Bergvall.

One Championship club that has developed a recent track record of producing talent is Birmingham City following the rise of Jude Bellingham.

And it seems another player is next on their conveyor belt with a number of clubs across the Premier League having shown reported interest in him.

At just 19-years-old, Jordan James already has a number of potential landing spots and HITC Football‘s Graeme Bailey has told The Spurs News Tottenham are monitoring his progression.

Tottenham are monitoring Jordan James’ progression

The Lilywhites have looked to the Championship in recent years for young prospects with the signing of Djed Spence, for example.

Although that is a deal which Spurs may want to forget, it is not stopping them from looking to the second tier as a pool of potential.

The 19-year-old midfielder is impressing massively for Birmingham having returned eight goals already in the league this season.

With an impressive 2023/24 campaign catching the eyes of teams outside of the Championship, Bailey informed The Spurs News of interest from north London: “There’s some good ones down there [Championship]. Jordan James at Birmingham, he’s one to watch. He’s a lovely footballer. I’ve heard Spurs are looking at him, as well. He’s a special player,” he said.

It is not just Tottenham who are showing an interest in James from the Premier League.

“Newcastle, Brighton, Brentford have all looked. I don’t think he goes this summer, but much will depend if they go down. But someone might take a chance [on him this summer].”

Who is Jordan James?

The 19-year-old is currently away on international duty with three Spurs players representing Wales.

He played the full 90 minutes last week in their emphatic victory over Finland which saw Ben Davies take the armband.

Not only is he impressing in the Championship, but it is clear he has already gained the trust of Rob Page in the national side with seven caps to his name ahead of Tuesday’s Euro Qualifier.

Operating from central midfield, James has now become a regular in the Birmingham starting XI and has proven to be somewhat of a goal threat.

Despite his age, James has now recorded 99 appearances for Birmingham where he has been able to net 10 goals.

Spurs have recently invested in talent from the Championship with Ashley Phillips from Blackburn Rovers. The defender has been sent out on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

He is a player who has impressed during his loan spell with Plymouth Argyle, however, his route into the starting XI at Spurs remains uncertain.
