Prince William's absence from Kate's cancer video sends a 'strong message'

Kate Middleton announced her cancer diagnosis to the world via a pre-recorded video on Friday, however, Prince William was nowhere to be seen.

The Princess of Wales underwent planned abdominal surgery at the beginning of the year, for a condition that was thought to be non-cancerous. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. Kate Middleton broke the difficult news to the world after endless social media conspiracies about her whereabouts after the Photoshop fiasco, but despite the incredibly tough announcement, Prince William wasn’t by her side.

Kate Middleton ‘didn’t need Prince William next to her’ for emotional message

As the news broke, and the video message circulated social media, many users were quick to question where Prince William was, as his wife sat alone on the bench.

She did mention him in her statement as she announced, “William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately, for the sake of our young family.”

Despite social media criticism surrounding the Prince’s absence, a royal source said ‘she didn’t need anyone next to her’.

“This was her as a strong woman sharing an innately strong message to the nation,” an insider told The Times.

“She didn’t need anyone sitting next to her.

The source then added “William had been supporting her and the family in the background.”

The moving speech was said to have been written by the Princess herself, and therefore it “felt appropriate for her to deliver it solo.”

After the statement, King Charles, who was also recently diagnosed with cancer, praised his daughter-in-law for her courage.

“King Charles III is “so proud of Catherine for her courage” in speaking about her treatment for cancer,” a statement from Buckingham Palace said. “Following their time in hospital together, HM has ‘remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks.’

“Both Their Majesties ‘will continue to offer their love and support to the whole family through this difficult time,’” the statement concluded.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle send message of support – after ‘finding out on TV’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also released a statement after Kate’s diagnosis, which read: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.”

However, recent reports suggest that the couple found out on TV, just like everyone else.

“It is understood that Kate’s cancer diagnosis was not shared in advance with Harry and Meghan,” The Times reported.

“Several sources confirm that there were no such conversations and it is thought Harry found out about Kate’s diagnosis from television, at the same time as the public.”
