Champions League side make contact with agent of key Arsenal star over potential move

Arsenal are keen to keep midfield veteran Jorginho beyond the end of the season, but there is plenty of interest in him.

The 32-year-old has been outstanding at times in this campaign, helping provide the perfect base support for Declan Rice in midfield.

The Italian has made himself a near-guaranteed starter in big games, and has usurped Thomas Partey in the pecking order amid the Ghanaian’s injury struggles.

Juventus are said to be among the teams interested in a move for Jorginho, whose contract expires at the end of the season, whilst Arsenal are also prepared to offer him fresh terms.

However, it has now been reported that Turkish giants Galatasaray have made contact with his representatives over a move.

Galatasaray make contact with representatives of Arsenal star Jorginho

Turkish outlet Takvim have now reported that Jorginho is of interest to Galatasaray, who beat Manchester United in the Champions League group stages this season.

“Galatasaray pressed the button to recruit Arsenal’s Brazilian Italian star Jorginho at the end of the season,” the report stated.

“Other clubs are interested in Jorginho but the administration, which decided to be quick, contacted the manager of the 32-year-old.”

Istanbul has become a popular destination for ex-Premier League players in recent years. Former Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is currently partnering former Spurs record signing Tanguy Ndombele in midfield there, whilst Crystal Palace legend Wilfried Zaha is among their top earners.

Jorginho appears settled at the Emirates, and is still competing at the highest level. However, with Arsenal set to sign a midfielder, with Martin Zubimendi of strong interest to Mikel Arteta, Jorginho’s lack of guaranteed game time could sway his decision towards an exit.

It remains to be seen if he would be willing to accept an extension at Arsenal, return to Italy or try a new chapter in Turkey, but Arsenal should do all they can to keep the former Chelsea star.

Jorginho has proven vital both on and off the pitch, and he would be a big loss on a free transfer. Partey looks set to leave after his injury issues, and even if another midfielder arrives, the Italian’s experience and leadership, as well as his quality on the ball, could see him continue to be a key part of Arteta’s squad for the coming seasons.
