Key Arsenal issue will 'come to a head' in summer, Arteta won't admit it 'publicly'

Broadcaster Dharmesh Sheth has now had his say on the future of one Arsenal star who has been the subject of much speculation this season.

Mikel Arteta will have to make a final decision on the future of one Arsenal player in the upcoming summer transfer window.

There are plenty of players currently on the books at the Emirates Stadium with question marks over their futures. For instance, as things stand, Jorginho is set to become a free agent this summer despite the clamour for the Gunners to extend his stay.

Arsenal are also thought to be open to offers on Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson, and Emile Smith Rowe. There has also been a suggestion that Arteta would be willing to move on from Thomas Partey, as the Ghanaian midfielder simply cannot be relied upon to be fit and available.

Then, there is the matter of what comes next for Aaron Ramsdale.

Where does Aaron Ramsdale now stand at Arsenal?

Ramsdale lost his starting berth at Arsenal early on this season, after the arrival of David Raya on loan from Brentford. Arsenal are set to make Raya’s switch to the Emirates Stadium permanent for a fee of £27 million this summer.

It is hard to see a way back for Ramsdale in north London. Whilst the 25-year-old remains a fan favourite, he is clearly not Arteta’s preferred first-choice between the sticks. Raya also recently further cemented his status as Arsenal’s No. 1 with his penalty shootout heroics against Porto in the last round of the Champions League.

Meanwhile, the last time the England man featured for Arsenal, he was responsible for an error which led to the Gunners conceding a goal. Arsenal fans did at least feel that Ramsdale atoned for that mistake with a number of important second-half saves, though.

Still, at this stage in his career, the four-cap England international needs to be playing regular football.

What next for Aaron Ramsdale?

Dharmesh Sheth, speaking to GiveMeSport, has now had his say on the ‘keeper’s situation. The reporter said, “publicly, Arsenal aren’t going to say anything while they’re in the midst of trying to get to the title and now the Champions League of course as well. But it is obviously going to come to a head in the summer because Arsenal will have to generate money as well like any other club before they go into the market to dry and bring in players. Ramsdale is an England international. If he wants to continue being an England international, come the summer, it’s going to have to be a situation where not just for him, but just for his career really, he’s going to need to get first-team football.”

It seems that the north London club are in alignment with Sheth on this matter. Arsenal are aware that Ramsdale is all but certain to leave the club this summer.

The former Sheffield United man is a top-class ‘keeper. In his time as Arsenal’s No. 1 in recent campaigns, he regularly caught the eye and impressed. Due to this, and his age, which suggests that his best years ought to still be ahead of him, Arsenal will expect to fetch a decent fee for Ramsdale this summer.
