Premier League now make Newcastle vs West Ham decision, nearly five months after blatant red card miss

The Premier League have announced which referee will be in charge of Newcastle United vs West Ham Untied on Saturday.

The Magpies are preparing to welcome the Hammers to St James’ Park, with the final international break of the season set to come to an end.

A lot of Newcastle United’s players have been away representing their countries, with Anthony Gordon making the most headlines after his England debut. He came up against his Toon teammate Bruno Guimaraes that night, with the 26-year-old playing brilliantly for Brazil.

He was alongside Lucas Paqueta at Wembley, who will be at St James’ Park this weekend. But he will be Bruno’s opponent, as the Brazilian pals prepare to go head-to-head as Newcastle face West Ham.

The reverse fixture had a fair bit of controversy, with Bruno luckily avoiding a red card for two yellow cards, while Newcastle got a few other favourable decisions from the officials.

Rob Jones to referee Newcastle United vs West Ham

West Ham fans will hope to see more go their way this weekend, and it has now been announced that the referee will be Rob Jones.

It will be the fourth time the 36-year-old has refereed Newcastle United this season, with only one of those appearances coming at St James’ Park.

His first Toon game was the 1-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium back in August, while the other two Newcastle fixtures were wins over Manchester United.

Jones made mistake during Newcastle game earlier this season

One of those wins was the Carabao Cup triumph at Old Trafford. Eddie Howe’s side were completely dominant, winning 3-0 to knock the Red Devils out of the competition.

It was an easy win for Newcastle, and it would have been even easier had Rob Jones done the right thing and sent Hannibal Mejbri off for two yellow cards in the first half.

The midfielder was booked in the 14th minute after clattering into Sean Longstaff. It was a needless show of violence which rightly resulted in a yellow card.

Minutes later, Mejbri was at it again. He put in a nasty tackle in on Emil Krafth, which really should have resulted in a second yellow card. It was dangerous, and Man United legend Gary Neville admitted at the time that the referee ‘let him off’.
