'The foot is wrapped': Coach says Spurs player has potentially suffered an injury on international duty today

The international break is often a source of worry for big clubs, and with Tottenham Hotspur having so many players out playing for their countries, it’s a tense time for Spurs fans and coaches.

Tottenham will be eager to avoid any major setbacks as Ange Postecoglou attempts to get Spurs back in the Champions League come May.

However, one player on Tottenham’s books suffered a knock in his country’s latest game, which has left his coaches sweating over his availability.

The player in question is Lucas Bergvall, who Tottenham signed from Swedish outlet Djurgarden back in January.

As per the terms of the deal, Spurs enabled the 18-year-old to stay put at the same club, ahead of linking up with the north Londoners in the summer.

Bergvall was in action for Sweden’s Under-21s against their North Macedonia counterparts in a UEFA Euro 2021 qualifier on Monday.

He found himself on receiving end of a nasty challenge from Mihail Dimitrievski in the 47th minute of the game.

Dimitrievski was given a straight red card for the lunge, which left the new Tottenham signing visibly in pain.

Although Bergvall tried to continue, he was eventually substituted in the 60th minute of the game, which Sweden won 2-0.

What has been said about the fitness of Spurs talent Lucas Bergvall?

Swedish outlet Aftonbladet has now shared quotes from coaches involved with the Spurs player on the subject of the knock he suffered.

“Lucas was hit on the foot and is a little swollen and sore. Further examination awaits when he is home in Sweden and Djurgarden again,” said U21 national team doctor Fredrik Bergstrom.

Meanwhile, club boss Bosse Anderson is quoted as saying: “The foot is wrapped but he is in good spirits and hopeful. We’ll see what it looks like when he gets home.”

Admittedly, with Bergvall not due to link up with Tottenham until the summer, this isn’t an injury that affects Spurs’ chances this season.

That said, it’s never nice to hear that a player has been left with a potential injury, particularly a young player who’s still developing.

Although Bergstrom and Anderson don’t seem excessively concerned, we’ll have to wait and see what further tests show.

Hopefully Bergvall’s injury is not bad and he can get back to action quickly.
