'There's no doubt': Alan Shearer thinks there's another job Eddie Howe will start getting linked to

Alan Shearer has claimed that Eddie Howe could be linked to a new job as Newcastle United continue to struggle.

Howe has been under a lot of pressure lately with Newcastle sitting around mid table in the Premier League ahead of a huge game against West Ham.

While the board at Newcastle have continued to put their faith in the head coach, Shearer, speaking on That Peter Crouch Podcast thinks that there could be a new opportunity for Howe that could come up in the near future.

Shearer thinks Howe could be set for new role in management

Newcastle have been linked to a number of managerial candidates recently suggesting they could go after a big name should Howe be let go in the next few months.

The 46-year-old has shown no desire to leave the club which he impressively took to the Champions League, but there is one job in particular that he has often been linked with in the last five years or so.

Gareth Southgate looks to have one major tournament left as England head coach and then the FA will be on the hunt for a new man, and Shearer thinks they may come asking for Howe.

The situation of the Newcastle manager may be completely different by that point should the club go on to potentially finish in the bottom half of the table, but right now he’s fully focused on his role at St James’ Park.

On Howe, Shearer said: “The obvious one last season was Eddie Howe, but you know how football works. He took Newcastle to fourth last year and I know they have struggled this year but everyone would have said him last year. There’s no doubt he will get a mention if and when the England job comes up.”

Howe still has Newcastle’s support

Despite the ongoing rumours that they will look to bring in someone like Jose Mourinho to help them end their trophy drought, Newcastle have shown to be very supportive of Howe even at his lowest point.

Those at the top of the club understand that things have been tough for head coach who has had to deal with so many injuries this year that has really limited what he can do on the pitch.

Newcastle also haven’t been able to reinvest into their squad in the most recent window due to to the financial restrictions in the Premier League, but they’re hoping to be big spenders this summer and help Howe push the team back into Europe’s elite competition.
