Arsenal can sign new Luka Modric for £51m this summer as release clause kicks in - Fabrizio Romano

Arsenal are supposedly keen to sign a talented midfielder who has been compared to Luka Modric this summer.

Mikel Arteta is aiming to pull off more success stories in the transfer market after striking gold with deals for Declan Rice, Ben White, David Raya and others.

Interestingly – following an update from Fabrizio Romano – it has now been revealed that Arsenal can actually sign this Luka Modric like maestro for a fixed fee, thanks to a release clause…

Arsenal can sign Dani Olmo for £51m

Well – according to Mundo Deportivo – Arsenal are keen to sign RB Leipzig No.7 Dani Olmo.

The Spain international has made a name for himself as one of the most creative midfielders in Europe during his time at the Bundesliga outfit, with Pep Guardiola even calling his fellow Spaniard an “incredible” footballer.

In normal circumstances, RB Leipzig could probably demand around £70m for Olmo, who scored a fantastic individual goal as Spain drew 3-3 against Brazil on Tuesday.

However – according to Romano – the Arsenal target is available for €60m (£51m) this summer when his release clause becomes active.

The reliable Italian journalist wrote: “Dani Olmo’s contract at Leipzig includes €60m (£51m) release clause that will become active starting from this summer. It’s (the) first time since signing new deal in 2023. He scored yesterday on his first game as new number 10 for Spain, and could be one to watch in the summer.”

Transfer away from RB Leipzig seems likely

In our view, it would actually be more surprising if Olmo stayed at RB Leipzig next season.

Look at it this way.

The man from Terrassa clearly wanted a release clause inserted into his contract, strongly hinting that he is targeting a move this summer, and as he continues to churn out terrific performances, it would be a shock if nobody triggered that £51m release clause.

A figure like that actually represents something of a bargain for a 25-year-old impressing for club and country in today’s market.

For example, Declan Rice is the same age, and moved for over double that £51m fee when Arsenal sealed a £105m agreement with West Ham back in July due to the absence of a release clause.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Arsenal could trigger Olmo’s release clause this summer.
