Fabrizio Romano has now shared 'concrete' Liverpool manager update which Reds fans will surely love - opinion

Liverpool have been busy putting together a new backroom team whilst also marching on in pursuit of yet more silverware this season.

FSG recently appointed Michael Edwards as their CEO of Football, who in turn has secured the services of Richard Hughes as Liverpool‘s incoming Director of Football.

Then, in the summer, the Reds will be looking to get a new head coach, with Jurgen Klopp set to depart Anfield at the end of the season.

Plenty of managers have been linked with the Liverpool reins, including Xabi Alonso, Ruben Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi.

Fabrizio Romano has now put out an update on the Reds’ managerial pursuit, saying they now have a “concrete” option in case they don’t get Alonso.

The coach in question is Amorim, who has been a revelation for Sporting Lisbon since taking the reins at the Portuguese capital club in 2020.

Ruben Amorim higher than Roberto De Zerbi in Liverpool pecking order

“Ruben Amorim is a concrete candidate for the Liverpool job,” Romano told the Men in Blazers podcast, as transcribed on GiveMeSport.

“I think he is in position number two at this moment from what I’m told. He also has a release clause in his new contract at Sporting.

“It is difficult to negotiate with Portuguese clubs, especially for special people like Ruben Amorim, but for sure the interest from Liverpool is there.

“I think Amorim is in position number two, he is a candidate for the Liverpool job at this moment more than Roberto De Zerbi.”

Liverpool fans will no doubt welcome the prospect of Amorim taking the Anfield reins if Alonso isn’t available.

Indeed, the reaction from a number of Reds fans on social media regarding this update appears to be pretty positive.

Why would Ruben Amorim be good for Liverpool?

If Liverpool don’t manage to get their hands on Alonso, then Amorim would also be a great shout for the Anfield hotseat.

The 39-year-old has proven himself to be a “supercoach” and an “incredible” young manager with a bright future in the game.

With regards to his suitability for Liverpool, Amorim seems to tick a lot of boxes.

He is a great communicator, knows what it takes to win titles, and will happily tweak his tactics to suit the players at his disposal. He also likes investing in young players and gems.

“Amorim is highly rated here in Portugal,” Transfermarkt wrote earlier this year.

“He is a very respected coach, there are almost no doubts about his qualities. Beyond that, people appreciate the way he communicates.

“He is a coach who is very sincere and direct in the answers he gives, always respecting the opponent. He seems to be a very upright and friendly person.”
