Report: One of Manchester City's 'greatest signings' now a major doubt for Arsenal game this Sunday

Manchester City and Arsenal are set to lock horns on Sunday in what could go down as one of this season’s defining Premier League clashes.

Pep Guardiola’s Citizens and Mikel Arteta’s Gunners contested a superb title race last season and they’re doing it again this term, alongside Liverpool.

Arsenal currently sit top of the standings on 64 points, but Liverpool are level on points in second and Man City are just a point behind in third.

Both the Gunners and the Citizens have some injury doubts ahead of the game. And on Wednesday, we’ve had some key updated about one of the key players.

Kyle Walker picked up a knock during the international break, coming off with a hamstring problem in England’s friendly loss to Brazil last week.

The first update came from Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas. He reported on X that the 33-year-old was having a scan on the hamstring issue and was said to be 50/50 for the Arsenal match.

However, later on in the day, the Daily Mail claimed that Walker had become a ‘serious doubt’ for City’s meeting with the Gunners.

Man City risk being without Kyle Walker for Arsenal crunch clash

With Man City and Arsenal so close in terms of points, Sunday’s game could well be defined by the tightest of margins on the pitch.

Walker, who Pep Guardiola deemed “one of the greatest signings” in Man City’s “modern history” two years ago, would be a huge miss against Arteta’s Gunners.

Admittedly, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli is available, as he would truly relish making the most of a Walker-less flank.

That said, Charles Watts recently reported that Martinelli is “a real doubt” after being spotted on crutches the night of the Porto game.

Over the coming days, we should get more information from the clubs themselves, likely from Guardiola and Arteta’s press conferences.

Both teams are in great form for the game. Manchester City haven’t lost a game since December, while Arsenal have won their last eight in the league.
