'He will be key': Chris Cohen thinks 26-year-old Nottingham Forest player will be so important now

Chris Cohen has shared which Nottingham Forest player he thinks will be so important in the changing room right now. This comes amid a four-point deduction for financial fair play breaches.

Cohen servedForest with distinction as a player. He endured three awful knee ligament injuries during his time at the City Ground but still managed to make 303 appearances for the Reds.

He captained the team during his time at the club, scoring 17 goals and registering 33 assists for Forest. After hanging up his boots, Cohen took coaching positions with the academy to hone his skills.

Now, Cohen has been quizzed on the current situation at Forest and he thinks one long-serving player will be instrumental in the dressing room right now.

Cohen shares which Forest star will be so important now

Well, it’s going to be all hands on deck between now and the end of the season. Forest need leaders to step up and in Ryan Yates, they do have a player who epitomises what playing for the club is all about.

Cohen was one of the players who had the trait when he was at Forest. Now, he believes that Yates will be crucial as the Reds play the final nine games of the campaign looking to save their skin.

The former Reds skipper was speaking during a rare interview this week. He was quizzed on the off-field situation and he expects that Yates will be desperately important in the run-in.

Cohen told Team Talk: “It doesn’t help, the off-field stuff. We had a lot of whilst I was there and as much as you try and put on a brave face, that stuff will be spoken about in the changing room but hopefully, the ones who have been there a while, Ryan Yates, he will be key in that changing room at the moment to make sure the players go out and do it on the pitch.”

Yates can play a City Ground – but he might not be a starter

The 26-year-old academy player is a combative midfielder who constantly divides opinion. Forest fans often have debates around Yates and whether he should be playing or not.

Ultimately, Ibrahim Sangare is now fit and Nuno Espirito Santo does appear to value his input to the team. The Ivorian looks like being a regular and the head coach has also rated Nicolas Dominguez.

Forest are striving for a winning formula once again. As a result, there could be a bit of rotation in the coming weeks and that might mean that Yates isn’t always going to start.

However, he is an important player away from the pitch. He’s one of the longer-serving players in the changing rooms and as Cohen says his leadership qualities should now come to the fore at Forest.
