‘I think': Kieran Maguire offers his verdict on whether Everton could go into liquidation

Yesterday marked the conclusion of Everton’s second and final PSR case of the season.

Having been stuck with a ten-point deduction in their first back in November, a subsequent appeal saw it later reduced to six.

Nottingham Forest have since been given four points, making the various precedents set grossly unaligned.

Fortunately, one expert figure does have some positive predictions to make regarding the immediate future of the club.

What Kieran Maguire said about Everton going into liquidation

Before delving into his comments, it is worth differentiating between administration and liquidation.

After all, the former has been touted far more freely throughout this process.

Whilst neither are particularly desirable outcomes for the Toffees, liquidation would be far more devastating, as it effectively brings about an end to the company in question.

All assets involved are dissolved, and nothing is left.

Administration, meanwhile, at least seeks to save an institution under huge amounts of financial stress, although it does result in mass redundancies.

Now, speaking on his Price of Football Podcast, finance expert Kieran Maguire has offered an update on that potential outcome: ‘Nothing’s been seen to that effect [a time limit on 777 conditions]. It’s very, very frustrating, you’ve got to feel for Everton fans.

‘They’ve had the issues with. The commission to deal with and then they’ve got this other issue with regard to who owns our football club. I think the good thing is that there will be an Everton Football Club.

‘The worst scenario fears, which I always felt were remote, are still just as remote as ever in terms of liquidation.’

Everton need to focus on what’s happening on the pitch now

Whilst it may be tough, now is the time for Sean Dyche to rally his troops and refocus them on the football left to be played.

After all, the international break is over, and so too is their three-week break from club matches. Saturday they are back in action with a trip to AFC Bournemouth, which marks a fine opportunity to claim their first Premier League victory since December.

Especially with another PSR case yet to be decided, they will likely need to pick up far more points than they would have previously had to.

These are dire times for Evertonians, and the players must step up.

In the same way that Jordan Pickford, Richarlison or Abdoulaye Doucoure have emerged in recent years to take the team on their back, they need a new hero who can provide the necessary firepower to drag this team to safety.
