‘He was unbelievable’: Michael Dawson says player Tottenham let go for £6m was absolutely amazing

Tottenham Hotspur have had so many brilliant midfield players over the years.

From Luka Modric to Paul Gascoigne, Spurs have had some truly fantastic midfielders in their history.

Even away from the elites, Spurs have had some top midfield operators who perhaps went a bit under the radar – the likes of Jermaine Jenas, Sandro and Tom Huddlestone were all very good players who perhaps didn’t get the credit they deserved.

Spurs have had some really underrated midfield players in their time, and speaking on the Off The Shelf Podcast, Michael Dawson has given another former Spurs midfielder some serious praise.

Michael Dawson praises Wilson Palacios

Speaking with Matt Wells on the podcast, Dawson spoke highly of Palacios as Wells named him as his unsung Spurs hero.

“Who’s your unsung Tottenham hero?” Wells was asked.

“Wilson Palacios,” Wells said.

“Wow, what a call that is by the way. He was unbelievable he was Wilson. What a guy as well. Oh, what a guy, brilliant, brilliant,” Dawson said.

Wilson Palacios was at Tottenham at the wrong time

Dawson is right, Palacios was a fantastic player for a period, but we can’t help but think he was at Spurs at the wrong time.

He was competing for minutes with the likes of Modric, Jenas, Huddlestone, Rafael Van der Vaart and Niko Kranjcar, that’s almost too much midfield talent at one time.

Palacios could’ve been really appreciated as a player at Spurs if he was at the club during a different point in time when midfield was a problem position as it often has been, but, unfortunately, he never got to show his true potential at Spurs simply because he didn’t play that much football.

Palacios would eventually leave Tottenham after just two seasons for £6m, but it does feel like he could’ve achieved a lot more at Spurs.
