Cambridge’s Big Wheel is about to start turning again over spring and summer.
The 36m (118ft) tall observation wheel is under construction on Parker’s Piece.
Run by City View Wheel Company, the wheel allows you to see for about four miles over Cambridge.
The city council granted planning permission in 2022 for the observation wheel to be put up on Parker’s Piece for four years.
It allows the company to begin setting up from March 22 and it must be taken down by September 1.
It can be open to the public to ride from April 1 to August 31.
There were more than 80 objections lodged against giving the wheel getting planning permission.
Once up and running, tickets for the wheel’s gondolas can bought online in advance at https://cityviewwheel.co.uk/. They are available every half hour between 11am and 7.30pm, seven days a week. Riders are asked to arrive 15 minutes in advance.
There is also one VIP gondola available with each time slot, which features a private gondola for up to four people, with a bottle of Champagne.
The Big Wheel is expected to return during the winter wonderland attraction coming to Parker’s Piece before Christmas.
Planning permission was granted by the city council for a new festive event, following the departure of the previous organisers of the annual North Pole attraction.
The Big Wheel will overlook at festive market with chalet huts, street food and a Christmas tree maze.
