Sweet soda inspired by popular pancake topping is coming to IHOP

IHOP and Pepsi have teamed up on a limited-edition drink, Maple Syrup Cola, and it’s not an April Fools joke.

Cans of the sweet concoction were given away in 2022, but it’s coming to restaurants nationwide for the first time next month.

The drink “combines the indulgent flavor profile of maple syrup with the crisp, refreshing caramel notes of a Pepsi,” IHOP said in a 2022 press release.

Their website shows two new menu options, a normal 30 oz Pepsi Maple Syrup Cola, and a Pepsi Maple Syrup Cola Float.

The soda costs $3.29 and is “a perfect blend of maple syrup flavor indulgence with the crisp, refreshing caramel notes”.

Or, the $3.99 float consists of “hand-scooped premium ice cream topped with a perfect blend of maple syrup flavor indulgence with the crisp, refreshing caramel notes of Pepsi”.

Instagram foodie Markie Devo claimed the menu item will launch on April 1 and be available for the entire month.

Cans were given away in 2022

The new menu items come after IHOP and Pepsi developed cans of Maple Syrup Cola in 2022 and gave them away.

They never went on sale in stores, but were won by people across the US through a promotion called #ShowUsYourStack.

Fans were encouraged to post a photo or video of their stack of pancakes on Instagram or Twitter and use the hashtag to be sent the drink.

Only 2,000 prizes were available, so the sweet beverage was extremely limited. Now, everyone will finally be able to try it.

“There is truly nothing quite like the indulgent taste of Pepsi Maple Syrup Cola – sweet maple syrup blended with the refreshing taste of Pepsi cola,” said Todd Kaplan, Chief Marketing Officer at Pepsi.

“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with IHOP on this special initiative, as it isn’t often we get to bring together two iconic brands to satisfy the cravings of pancake and Pepsi lovers alike.”

IHOP also collaborated with Lays earlier this year on limited-edition pancake-flavored chips inspired by their most popular menu item.

‘I need to try this’

The collaboration is tingling everyone’s taste buds, and IHOP fans can’t wait to try the sweet new drink.

One person wrote on Instagram: “I’ll definitely be trying the maple Pepsi sounds delicious.”

“Ohhh I gotta go try it since I didn’t win the contest,” said another.

A third person added: “I need to try this.”

Others are worrying that it might be a little too sickly, but there’s only one way to find out! Head to iHop on April 1 to have a taste.
