Glasner must now rely on ‘spectacular’ Crystal Palace to silence Bournemouth’s key creator - Our View

Crystal Palace will be hunting a win on Tuesday evening and one of Oliver Glasner’s stars could have the key to keeping Bournemouth at bay at the Vitality Stadium.

Following on from their Premier League duel with Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon, Crystal Palace return to action against Bournemouth on Tuesday evening.

Oliver Glasner will be hoping that the Eagles don’t make a similar mistake, in what will be his fifth game in charge, with the manager having seen his side drop points from winning positions in their last three fixtures.

With nine games to go in the 2023/24 campaign, it’s important that Palace hunt for some form having not secured consecutive wins since April 2023, an incredibly alarming statistic.

The last time the South Londoners made the trip to the south coast, the Eagles walked away with a 2-0 victory, dating back to December 2022, with the hope that history can repeat again.

Crystal Palace team news

Having played not long ago, the Eagles are expected to remain as they were during the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest however, there has been talk of a near return for Michael Olise and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.

Ahead of the Forest game, Glasner admitted that Odsonne Edouard’s injury that saw him miss the fixture at the City Ground was “not serious” however, there is still no indication over the striker’s fitness.

When it comes to strikers, the manager will be hoping to see Jean-Philippe Mateta’s searing form continue, as the Frenchman seeks his third consecutive goal in the Premier League.

While Mateta’s form will be integral to Palace’s chances against the Cherries, another player will be incredibly important for different reasons.

Why Daniel Munoz will be so important to Crystal Palace v Bournemouth

Branded as “spectacular” for his contribution to Palace so far by teammate Jefferson Lerma, Daniel Munoz will need to continue his stellar form against Bournemouth.

When looking at Bournemouth, the most threatening figure is undoubtedly that of Dominic Solanke, who has 16 goals in the Premier League this term.

While keeping the Englishman quiet will be one job for the back line, keeping those who feed him will be another, which is where Munoz’s impeccable displays on the right side come in.

With four assists and an average of 1.5 key passes per game in the Premier League for Bournemouth this season, via WhoScored, no player is more of a creative threat than left-winger Marcus Tavernier.

As Munoz has done so effortlessly so far this season, the Colombian must now keep a close eye on the threat of Tavernier, who has the capability to unlock Palace’s defence if given the space to operate.

Munoz, who has been frighteningly good since arriving in England in January, must be vigilant at the back as well as flying forward, which he has shown he can do by averaging an impressive 2.3 tackles per game this term, via Sofascore.

If there’s one player that Glasner can rely on right now, it’s his flying right wing-back, who has taken everything in his stride since making Selhurst Park his home.
