'It was' – Sky Sports pundit claims Man Utd made Brentford look like one elite European team in scathing criticism

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Manchester United made Brentford look like one elite European team after he dropped his scathing criticism.

The Red Devils returned to action for the first time after their sensational 4-3 FA Cup quarter-final win over Liverpool at Old Trafford ahead of the international break.

However, Manchester United failed to impress against Brentford and the Premier League club struggled to assert themselves at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Despite an underwhelming performance against Brentford, the Red Devils came close to snatching all three Premier League points on Saturday.

Erik ten Hag’s men took the lead deep into injury time after former Chelsea star Mason Mount climbed off the bench and broke the deadlock for United.

However, United’s lead was short-lived and Brentford defender Kristoffer Ajer cancelled out Mason Mount’s opener at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The Red Devils’ costly draw was another slip-up in United’s hopes of securing Champions League football for the following season.

Erik ten Hag’s side have their top-four Premier League challenge hanging in the balance, with United 11 points adrift from fourth-place Aston Villa.

Redknapp talks Brentford vs Man Utd

Manchester United have a match in hand over Aston Villa, but the Red Devils face two tough Premier League fixtures this week after the Brentford draw.

Erik ten Hag’s men travel away on Thursday for their Premier League showdown with Chelsea before hosting rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Brentford, on the other hand, have endured a tough run of results in the Premier League ahead of their draw against United on the weekend.

Thomas Frank’s men, who have picked up two points in their last seven matches, have not won in the Premier League since February after they beat Wolves 2-0.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Jamie Redknapp praised Brentford’s performance and claimed United made them look like Real Madrid on the night.

“Before the game, Thomas Frank would have been a bit nervous thinking, ‘We are now going to see a different United. We’re going to see a United full of confidence after the result against Liverpool.’ It was anything but that,” he said.

“They gave up so much possession, there was a lack of energy with the ball, without the ball. They made Brentford look like Real Madrid!”

Redknapp critical of Man Utd boss Ten Hag

United manager Ten Hag admitted after the match that he was unimpressed with the Premier League performance from the Red Devils.

The Dutchman added that Brentford “wanted [it] more” in the whole of the match and Redknapp believes it doesn’t paint a pretty picture for Ten Hag and his men.

“Ten Hag said they wanted it more. Whenever you hear a manager say that, that’s quite damning,” Redknapp said.

“He says, ‘Our way of playing.’ I don’t know what their way of playing is.

“I don’t know if they play out from the back. They try to do it sometimes and pass it to the ‘keeper and he just lumps it up the pitch.

“I know they haven’t had the back four they’d like [because of injuries] but I don’t know what the Man United way of playing is.”
