'He’s played exceedingly well': Glenn Hoddle wowed by top Tottenham youngster who's a real 'asset'

Tottenham Hotspur were in Premier League action on Tuesday night as they contested a London derby away at West Ham United.

Ange Postecoglou‘s Spurs sought to make it two league wins in a row after coming from behind to defeat Luton Town at the weekend.

Tottenham managed to pick up a point against the Hammers, with Brennan Johnson opening the scoring in the third minute by tapping home from a Timo Werner delivery.

The hosts equalised in the 19th minute as defender Kurt Zouma headed home from a corner, and so the points were shared.

Speaking ahead of the game, Glenn Hoddle waxed lyrical about Johnson, who has gone from strength to strength at Spurs in recent months.

The 22-year-old joined Tottenham in September in a £47.5million deal from fellow Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest.

Johnson needed a little time to get up to speed, but has become increasingly important for Spurs.

He now has five goals and seven assists to his name, despite most of his appearances coming off the Tottenham bench.

What has Glenn Hoddle said about Tottenham ace Brennan Johnson?

On Tuesday, Postecoglou rewarded Johnson by naming him in the Spurs starting XI, and he rewarded his manager’s faith with the opener.

“I think he’s been an excellent sub this season, he kind of comes on when the pressure is off,” Hoddle said on TNT Sports pre-match.

“And he’s played exceedingly well and scored goals and created stuff.

“It was always going to be an exceedingly slow sort of burner for Brennan to come in and start but I think he’s earned it with the way he’s played.

“He can play left-side or right-side, which is good for him. But he arrives in the penalty area, it’s what I like about him.

“His reading of the game off the ball is as good as his reading on the ball and that’s where I think he’s an asset.”

It’s great to see Johnson finding his feet at Tottenham. He was absolutely quality at Forest last season, and now he’s starting to reach those same levels at Spurs.

It isn’t surprising to see a player need a little time to get up to speed at a new club, and things are finally clicking for the Wales international at N17.
