'Incredible': David Moyes blown away by West Ham player's performance vs Tottenham

West Ham United drew 1-1 with Tottenham in the Premier League last night, and David Moyes was visibly proud of his players after the game.

David Moyes was desperate for a result in the Premier League clash with Tottenham last night, and the West Ham players certainly didn’t let him down.

Sure, a win would have been nice, but nobody can criticise the performance and application from the Hammers players against Spurs.

Everyone inside the London Stadium appreciated what they were watching, and the West Ham fans loved something that Edson Alvarez did when sitting in the stands last night as well.

After the capitulation at Newcastle on Saturday, the bare minimum required from the boys was a performance full of desire and commitment. Nobody can argue with the fact that the players produced that.

West Ham’s stats prove that the players had a real go last night:

  • 32% possession
  • 11 shots
  • 4 shots on target
  • 15 tackles
  • 18 clearances
  • 299 passes
  • 46 dangerous attacks

On another night, we’d have beaten Spurs but it wasn’t to be in the end. We take the point and move on to Wolves away this weekend.

Which player did Moyes think stood out for the Hammers last night though?

After the final whistle last night, most Hammers fans were satisfied with the effort shown by the players during the match.

It was slightly frustrating that Moyes didn’t use his bench at all but in fairness, he doesn’t have much quality there does he?

One player who Moyes hardly ever brings off unless he has to because of an injury problem is Jarrod Bowen. The former Hull City star was brilliant for us once again last night.

And Moyes absolutely raved about him when speaking to reporters after the game, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“Jarrod Bowen has shown good form all season, and he’s a consistent threat. He’s had his moments when he’s not been quite as hot as he can be, but he had a big hand in our goal tonight, and he’s dangerous whether it’s scoring or setting things up. He’s a really good player all round, and the energy and effort he gives to the team is incredible.”

Moyes is spot on here. The 27-year-old never stops running and is crucial to how we play as a team.

Bowen himself admitted after the game up at Newcastle that the performance from the players inside the final 20 minutes just wasn’t good enough.

So it was nice to see a response from him and his teammates.

Against the north London outfit, Bowen had 45 touches, attempted two shots on goal, made three key passes and registered an assist against Spurs (Who Scored).

Moyes was clearly delighted with Jarrod after West Ham drew 1-1 with Tottenham at the London Stadium. The forward now has 19 goals and nine assists in 39 games to his name this season (Transfermarkt).

Let’s hope that he finishes the 2023/24 campaign really strongly, and adds plenty more goals and assists to his tally.
