Jarrod Bowen has just broken 26-year West Ham record during draw with Tottenham

Jarrod Bowen has broken a 26-year record at West Ham United following last night’s draw at the London Stadium.

David Moyes’ side put in a resilient defensive display last night as they picked up a point against Spurs.

After falling behind in the fifth minute, West Ham fans would have feared the worst after a strong start from their London rivals.

But to West Ham’s credit, they stuck to the task admirably and grew into the game following Kurt Zouma’s leveller.

The goal came from a well-worked set-piece as Jarrod Bowen delivered an excellent corner, which was met by Zouma.

It proved to be enough to earn the Hammers a point on the night as Spurs struggled to create clear-cut opportunities thereafter.

But the goal also led to Bowen reaching an impressive landmark as he has now managed more goal involvements this term than Dimitri Payet registered in the 2015-16 season.

Bowen hits impressive landmark during West Ham vs Tottenham

Speaking to West Ham’s official website after the game, it was pointed out to Bowen that he’s broken a record which has stood for 26 years.

“Going back a little bit earlier in the game another assist for you, that’s now 28 goal involvements for you this season, which is one more than Payet in 2015/16 and the most since John Hartson, which was nearly 30 years ago,” the interviewer said.

“I just want to keep on doing what I am doing,” said Bowen. “I think I’ve spoken all season that I just want to keep that consistency level in my game and keep getting goals, assists and I think that is all I can do.

“Being on corners with the players we have in the box helps that as well. Dinos [Mavropanos] was so unlucky not to score from one in the second half, it was millimetres from when I crossed it to going over the line. It’s one of our main strengths and we can really hurt people with them. I think every corner we had tonight we had a chance from.

“I just want to keep on doing what I’m doing and getting those goals involvements and want to break the goalscoring record.

“There is not long between the games, so we need to recover, do our preparation, and go to Molineux on Saturday and turn up.”

Bowen’s stats for West Ham

During the 1997/98 campaign, John Hartson managed 28 goal involvements in all competitions for the Hammers.

After last night’s assist, Bowen has now managed the same number of goal involvements and looks set to surpass Hartson.

The 27-year-old is enjoying an exceptional season as he’s netted 19 times and provided nine assists in all competitions.
