'He is quality': BBC pundit thinks Nottingham Forest star has stepped up since Brennan Johnson left

Sebastien Bassong was in place to provide analysis last night as Nottingham Forest defeated Fulham 3-1 and he delivered a strong verdict on Morgan Gibbs-White.

The Reds raced out of the blocks at the City Ground and went into a two-goal lead inside the opening 19 minutes of the contest through Callum Hudson-Odoi and Chris Wood.

On the stroke of half-time, Gibbs-White got in on the act. He slotted home cooly beyond Bernd Leno after a lovely passing exchange between himself and Danilo.

Gibbs-White was once the record signing at Forest. The £25 million fee that the Reds paid was beaten when the club signed Ibrahim Sangare during the summer transfer window.

However, it’s clear right now who the most valuable Forest player is and Gibbs-White is right at the top of the list. Now, Bassong has delivered his verdict on the player.

What Sebastien Bassong said about Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White

Well, this was a tremendous performance from Gibbs-White and arguably his fines since he came to Forest. Who Scored showed that he made four key passes and also finished with a goal and assist to his name.

It’s often been a bit of a criticism thrown at Gibbs-White that he could get more goals and assists. Well, last night he showcased that when he’s on form he’s among the best in the division.

Bassong praised Gibbs-White for his efforts against Fulham at the City Ground and he thinks he’s had some big shoes to fill this season for Forest.

He told BBC Sport: “Morgan Gibbs-White just stands out for Forest. He is a quality player playing with a lot of confidence. He hasn’t been playing at this level for a very long time and has had a few ups and downs. Overall, his performances have been very impressive.

“When Brennan Johnson left he had to take even more responsibility at Forest and that is what he has done. He is relishing being the star man, the main player who gets his team going.

“Today has been a prime example of his class and quality.”

Premier League football could see Gibbs-White stay

West Ham and Tottenham are both keen on signing Gibbs-White, reports have claimed. However, in our view, we’re not sure either will have deep enough pockets should Forest remain in the Premier League.

With Gibbs-White tied down to a long-term deal at the City Ground, Forest won’t be under pressure to sell him. Other players will be able to bring the club some profit and it’s imperative the club try and keep the 24-year-old.

Last night, the player was just scintillating. Gibbs-White was praised by Nuno Espirito Santo and ultimately the head coach understands the quality that his number 10 brings to the team.

It promises to be another hectic summer regardless of what division the Reds are playing in next season. If it’s the Premier League, Forest must do whatever it takes to keep Gibbs-White at the club.
