Brennan Johnson says he’s really enjoying playing with £15m Tottenham teammate

Brennan Johnson has claimed he’s striking up an improved understanding with one Tottenham Hotspur teammate.

Tottenham were held to a 1-1 draw at West Ham last night, with Brennan Johnson getting on the scoresheet early.

Following his heroics from the bench against Luton Town, the Welshman deservedly started over Dejan Kulusevski off the right-hand side.

It took Johnson just five minutes to open the scoring as he made a smart run from the back post for a simple tap-in.

As we’ve seen plenty of times in recent weeks, it was the two wide players linking up for the goal after some brilliant work down the left-hand side from Timo Werner.

The German was quiet on the whole last night but he provided a real moment of quality for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Johnson enjoying playing alongside Werner

Speaking to Spurs Play after last night’s draw at the London Stadium, Johnson commented on his growing partnership with Werner.

“The more time goes on I feel like the better the relationship becomes between me and Timo,” the winger said.

“I am kind of understanding his play a lot more and he is understanding mine, so it was nice for him to cut the ball across for me and for me to score.”

Johnson impressed again for Tottenham vs West Ham

While Werner didn’t quite manage to build on a positive start to the game, Johnson provided a real threat down the right-hand side.

The 22-year-old impressed Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle on the night, who labelled his movement ‘brilliant’.

Johnson has picked up a habit of arriving in the box at the ideal time and his understanding of Postecoglou’s system seems to be growing by the week.

As for Werner, the 28-year-old is also proving to be a useful option for Tottenham after his loan switch from RB Leipzig.

Tottenham have the option to sign the German for just £15 million this summer and on current form, he could be earning a permanent move to Hotspur Way.
