'Limitless potential': Eddie Howe now thinks Newcastle signed 24-year-old player at the perfect time

Eddie Howe believes that Newcastle United have a player who has got ‘limitless potential’ right now.

The Magpies have signed some sensational players since the change of ownership, with PIF investing heavily to improve what was an ageing squad when they took over.

Newcastle United’s plan was to sign top level young players who have the potential to grow into superstars, whilst immediately increasing the quality at Eddie Howe‘s disposal.

The likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman immediately enhanced Newcastle’s squad, helping shape the spine of the team that was being constructed behind the scenes.

They both cost a lot of money, but Newcastle’s most expensive player is Alexander Isak. He cost £63million from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022, and Howe believes that the Swede arrived on Tyneside at the perfect time in his career.

Eddie Howe shares why the timing was just right for Alexander Isak to join Newcastle

Following Newcastle’s draw with Everton, Howe spoke to the Northern Echo. He discussed Alexander Isak‘s move to St James’ Park, after the 24-year-old netted his 19th goal of the season to continue his rich vein of form.

“For me, Alex has limitless potential,” he said.

“You’ve got someone who has had really good experiences in his career. He’s travelled as a young player and had some experience of different leagues.

“I think he’s come to us at a really good time of his career where we can help him, develop his talents and give him a platform to show how good he is. I think at the moment, he’s building in confidence all the time. He’s a high-level player and we’re delighted to have him with us.”

Alexander Isak has a lot of experience at a young age

Despite still only being 24-years-old, it feels like Isak has been around forever. He burst onto the scene at a very young age, signing for Borussia Dortmund when he was just 17. At the time, he was being heralded as the next Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Those comparisons have disappeared now. Instead, he is likened to Thierry Henry due to his speed, dribbling ability and effortlessness in front of goal.

While he was not a regular for Dortmund, he has also played three full seasons in La Liga for Real Sociedad. Isak has a lot of experience in various different leagues, and it has culminated in him arriving at Newcastle.

He is already a superstar on Tyneside, and someone who Howe wants to build his team around. That is understandable, given how frighteningly talented he is.

And this is still just the beginning. As Howe says, Isak has the potential to continue growing, and will soon be recognised as one of the best strikers on the planet.
