'I don't see that': Jurgen Klinsmann admits he doesn't think 58-year-old will be Liverpool's next manager

Jurgen Klinsmann has suggested that he does not see Liverpool hiring one 58-year-old manager after being asked about the prospect of him jumping ship from the Reds’ Premier League rivals.

Of course, Liverpool remain on the hunt for their next boss following the news that Jurgen Klopp will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

The announcement came in January. And you would imagine that the Reds hierarchy will have been working incredibly hard behind the scenes.

They were dealt a potential blow with the news Xabi Alonso is staying at Bayer Leverkusen. So it is going to be fascinating to see where the Reds look next.

Liverpool have been linked with Roberto De Zerbi. But perhaps another Premier League boss could come into their thinking as they get closer and closer to stepping up their pursuit.

Jurgen Klinsmann cannot see 58-year-old boss at Liverpool

Ange Postecoglou has won a lot of admirers with the work he has done at Tottenham Hotspur this season. There were doubts about the Australian before the campaign began. But Spurs are very much in contention to qualify for the Champions League next year.

Liverpool are interested in Postecoglou. But speaking to ESPN, Jurgen Klinsmann insisted that he is not expecting to see the Spurs boss end up at Anfield.

“No, I don’t see that coming. I don’t see Ange going away from Spurs. I think he’s started a very exciting project. He’s started very, very well. Spurs were up on top at the beginning of the season. But we all knew it’s not going to last forever. So I think the Spurs fans, they all enjoyed it for the first couple of months, looking at the table. I think the reality is right there where they are right now, spot four or five, that’s the fight that Spurs has to fight right now. Making sure they get into the Champions League next season, that would be a tremendous, positive outcome of his first year at Spurs,” he said.

“Whoever wants to follow in the footsteps of Jurgen Klopp will have a very, very difficult task, will have a very difficult job. And I look back a little bit at that transition when Sir Alex Ferguson left the helm at Man United. And David Moyes stepped in. I still believe that David Moyes was the right manager for Man United at that time. Absolutely. But he was not given the time. He was not even given a year.

“Whoever steps now into the footsteps of Jurgen Klopp needs to get at least a chance to be there for three years, at least two years, at least two seasons.”

Tottenham fans will be optimistic about keeping Ange Postecoglou

Now that Alonso is staying, it does feel as though there may well be a surprise with who Liverpool now appoint as their next manager.

There is interest in Ruben Amorim. So he may now be the front-runner in the eyes of many. But if they do look elsewhere, it could be a real shock.

Tottenham are certainly not going to make it easy for Postecoglou to leave, even if Liverpool come calling. And Postecoglou himself would surely want assurances over the project given that he has a very good thing going at Spurs right now.

Certainly, plenty of Tottenham fans are likely to share the same confidence as Klinsmann when it comes to their manager’s future.
