Heung-min Son says he wants Tottenham to sign ‘lightning quick’ £165k-per-week forward this summer

Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-min Son has now named a player he’d like to see the club sign in the summer.

Spurs were unable to make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League on Tuesday night after drawing away to West Ham.

Heung-min Son was the hero on Saturday with his late winning goal against Luton Town, but he drew a blank at the London Stadium.

The Tottenham attack has struggled to find their free-flowing form shown against Aston Villa last month for a number of games now.

But Son has provided the club with a transfer message on who he’d like to see join over the coming months.

Who Heung-min Son would like Tottenham to sign

Last summer Daniel Levy provide Ange Postecoglou with a number of new arrivals at Hotspur Way.

The January window was no different with Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner coming through the doors with Lucas Bergvall to follow in in the summer.

Spurs fans will be hoping for more of the same in the coming transfer window with the club showing a lot of progression on the pitch.

And it seems Son has been impressed with what he has seen from Werner since he joined on loan in the January window.

The £165k-per-week German provided another assist on Tuesday night for Brennan Johnson‘s opening goal.

His solid return of goals and assists has now seen the South Korean share his approval for the Lilywhites to make his stay permanent in the summer.

He said: “When he came to Tottenham, [Timo] was missing a little bit of confidence, but now you can see he’s playing with confidence and more comfortable — missing a few chances, but that will come. He’s doing a great job, but as I always said, he’s a Golden Boot winner in the Bundesliga and we expect he’ll score and give assists more for the team, because we have massive games ahead.

“I always want to make good friends and good team-mates, but in football there are no guarantees and the club will make a decision. But Timo would happily stay here, I can see that.

“As a player, I want to help him so he has a better option than right now. That’s a team-mate’s job. We’ll see what’s going to happen at the end of the season. I can say I want him to stay.”

Should Tottenham sign Werner in the summer?

Over his 10 appearances (seven starts) in the Premier League, Werner has been able to return two goals and three assists.

Which has certainly been a more impressive return than what Dejan Kulusevski has offered since the turn of the year with just one goal and one assist since mid-December from the Swede.

Tottenham have until 14 June to make Werner’s stay in north London permanent for a fee of £15.

And it is believed that he is keen to remain in London having left RB Leipzig for the second time now.

Postecoglou has recently spoken about the impact Werner has had since arriving and feels there is still more to come.

He said: “I think he’s been really important. If we hadn’t brought him in there would have been far more of a burden on the other players, especially with Sonny away. We threw him straight in. He’s made an impact but I think he can get even better.”

But that is the frustrating thing about Werner, when the full-time whistle blows, you can’t help but feel he has left more goals and assists out there.

Of course, no player is completely clinical and scores every chance they get, however, there’s no doubt the “lightning quick” Werner should have scored more than just twice.

He squandered a golden opportunity against Crystal Palace after finding himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and then again on the weekend against Luton.

And they were not the worst misses with his open goal miss against Fulham leaving journalist Alasdair Gold absolutely stunned.

Numerous times last night, Werner saw Johnson whip the ball across the box, but he failed to make the run in at the back post which has proven so useful for Spurs.

At £15m, it is a deal too good for Spurs to turn down, but if he wants to be a regular starter it does feel as if he has to become a lot more clinical in front of goal.
