N.J. teens arrested for allegedly stealing a newspaper clip about 9/11 from a museum

Three teenagers were arrested and are facing burglary charges for breaking into a museum in Bergen County and stealing a 2001 newspaper clipping about the 9/11 terrorist attacks, police reported.

Police responded to a burglar alarm at the historic Lyndhurst Little Red Schoolhouse Museum at about 7:20 p.m Sunday and found three people running from the building, according to officials.

The group attempted to flee east on Fern Avenue before they were stopped and detained by Lyndhurst Police Officer Michael Carrino, the report said.

The three suspects were identified as a 19-year old from Ramsey, an 18-year-old from East Rutherford and an 18-year-old from Lyndhurst.

Investigators determined the teenagers entered the building from the basement and before leaving took a cover page from a 2001 newspaper containing a story about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

The trio was arrested, charged with burglary and released, police said. They are scheduled to appear in court on April 10.

Additional charges are pending, according to officials.

The Lyndhurst Little Red Schoolhouse holds national historical designation. It was built in 1804 as one of the earliest public schools in Bergen County. Currently, it’s home to the Lyndhurst Historical Society and operates as a museum showcasing local history.
