Liverpool are currently looking for a new manager to take the reins when Jurgen Klopp leaves Anfield at the end of the season.
The Reds have been linked with a number of coaches in recent months, but have been dealt a blow in pursuit of one of their top targets.
Liverpool were said to be in pursuit of Anfield cult hero Xabi Alonso, but he has since revealed that he plans to remain with Bayer Leverkusen in the near future.
With that in mind, the Reds are having to look elsewhere, and several names are now doing the rounds on the rumour mill.
Ruben Amorim, Roberto De Zerbi and Thiago Motta are just three of the names now being linked with the Liverpool role.
Julian Nagelsmann is another, but according to The Telegraph‘s Jason Burt, the 36-year-old is unlikely to want to succeed Klopp at Anfield.
Nagelsmann is currently in charge of the German national team, but his contract runs out after Euro 2024, which is being played in Germany.
Last month, The Athletic reported that the former Bayern Munich coach – a ‘deep tactical thinker’ – was ‘profiling well’ in Liverpool’s data model.
However, Burt has indicated that Nagelsmann may not have the desire to follow his iconic compatriot in the Anfield hotseat.
“Another option for them [Bayern] is their former coach Julian Nagelsmann, who has also been under consideration by Liverpool but, it seems, is unlikely to want to succeed Klopp,” wrote Burt.

Although Nagelsmann is a ‘phenomenal‘ manager, it doesn’t look as though Liverpool are prioritising him anyway, so hearing he may not be interested probably won’t come as a huge blow to them.
Admittedly, a lot can change in the space of a few weeks when it comes to availability and interest from coaches (and indeed players), so we’ll see what happens.
With European football now in the run-in, the top club coaches have more important things on their mind than their next job. Once the seasons are over, then we’ll see more concrete speculation.
That said, when it comes to Nagelsmann, his big campaign will start in June, when Germany get proceedings off at their home European championships.
By mid-July, Liverpool will have pre-season to deal with, and they’ll probably want a new manager in place by then. They can’t afford to wait for Nagelsmann to become available.
