Report: Club want to 'gift' £51m Tottenham player to Antonio Conte if he becomes their new manager this summer

A Tottenham Hotspur star is on the wanted list for a club who are looking to appoint Antonio Conte as their new manager this summer.

The Italian, who is widely regarded as one of the best managers in the world, spent 16 months at the helm at Spurs. He had a good first season, but his second campaign proved to be a disaster.

After a public outburst following a 3-3 draw against Southampton in March last year, Conte decided to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He has been without a job since, but he could be back in business as early as this summer.

Antonio Conte‘s time at Tottenham will not be remembered fondly for so many reasons.

He just never looked like he wanted to be there for the most part and to make it worse, his style of football was just terrible to watch.

However, Conte did some good things at Spurs as well. He brought in a few excellent players with the help of Fabio Paratici, and some of them are key players under Ange Postecoglou now as well.

One such player is Sweden international attacker Dejan Kulusevski.

The 23-year-old has been at Tottenham since January 2022, and he is a fan favourite at the club. He is a regular under Postecoglou too, but he has now emerged as an ambitious target for Napoli.

The Italian champions are looking to appoint Conte as their new manager this summer, and TuttoMercatoWeb claim that their dream is to ‘gift’ Kulusevski to the Italian.

It has been revealed that Spurs value the Swede at €60 million (£51m), but a move this summer has been described as ‘more of a dream than reality’.

The report claims that Kulusevski is not just a key player for Tottenham but he will also cost Napoli in excess of €5 million per year, which would be a lot for the Partenopei as they will have to pay Conte a fortune as well.

Dejan Kulusevski’s stats under Antonio Conte and Ange Postecoglou compared

Dejan Kulusevski is a fantastic player and it’s no surprise that Tottenham fans love him.

The Swede has been really good for Spurs since he joined them, and the fact that he is still only 23 means he will only get better in the coming years. He’s already good enough to play for most teams in the Premier League.

Kulusevski played 47 games under Antonio Conte when he was at Tottenham and scored seven goals. He also provided 15 assists, which is brilliant. The Swede averaged a direct goal contribution every 145.6 minutes then.

Under Postecoglou, on the other hand, Kulusevski has scored six goals and provided three assists in 31 games. That’s a direct goal contribution every 275.2 minutes.

Kulusevski’s numbers under Conte are clearly better, which is probably why Napoli want to sign him if they get the Italian as their new boss. However, we just can’t see a world in which Tottenham will sell him this summer.
