Luton Town player claims Kai Havertz did something really clever last night which the cameras didn't spot

Tom Lockyer has shared what he noticed Kai Havertz doing potentially off camera which really impressed him as Arsenal beat Luton Town at the Emirates on Wednesday night.

The Gunners produced an incredibly professional performance as they beat the Hatters to move back to the top of the Premier League table.

Martin Odegaard gave Arsenal the lead midway through the first-half. And they went into the break 2-0 up thanks to an own goal.

It was Kai Havertz who set up Odegaard for the opener, calmly finding the captain across the penalty area. Once again, it was another impressive showing from the German.

Havertz has gone some way towards silencing his doubters this season. He certainly appears to have found his spot in the Arsenal side as the striker.

As shown by Whoscored, Havertz was actually the player in the forward line who had the fewest touches – albeit, he was also the first to come off.

Nevertheless, speaking on TNT Sports (broadcast on 3/4 from 19:30), Luton captain Tom Lockyer suggested that he was so impressed by how influential Havertz actually is, after watching him live.

“He’s really at home now. The amount of times he did double movement today where he went short off [Teden] Mengi and then spun in behind, and he would have got the ball if it was played to him,” he said.

“It might not get picked up by the cameras, but they’re the sort of movements that even if he doesn’t get it, he might get the next one. Then he’ll keep going and get the next one, and eventually something will happen to him.

“When someone works as hard as that, making those selfless runs, then something will fall in the end.”

Gunners at their best with German up front

Havertz is never going to be the prolific goalscorer who blows teams away with how lethal he is inside the penalty area.

He has contributed a fair share of goals. But he is someone who tends to go on lengthy runs without finding the back of the net. However, he ticks so many other boxes for the Gunners.

Havertz is someone who can compete against the most physical defenders in the division. And he takes up those positions which allow the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard to make such clever runs.

Havertz has been at his best for Arsenal when leading the line. And the Gunners arguably look to be at their best now when they have the 24-year-old up front.
