Guglielmo Vicario ranks one current Liverpool star ahead of Tottenham great Gareth Bale in challenge

Guglielmo Vicario has placed one current Liverpool player ahead of Tottenham Hotspur great Gareth Bale as he took part in a blind ranking challenge.

Of course, Gareth Bale had a remarkable career at White Hart Lane. The Welshman took some time to get going following his move to North London, famously going on a significant winless streak at the start of his Spurs spell.

But Bale left having established himself as one of the best players on the planet.

Across the two spells Bale had at Tottenham, he had scored 72 goals and contributed 58 assists in 237 games in all competitions.

And the 34-year-old went on to win the Champions League five times while with Real Madrid.

Injury perhaps prevented Bale realising his full potential in the Spanish capital. However, there is no question that he provided some unbelievable moments for Los Blancos.

So with that, it is perhaps a surprise that Guglielmo Vicario did not place Bale higher when taking part in a blind ranking challenge – where the person taking part has no idea of the 10 players who will crop up, but is looking to rank them in an order which ultimately makes some sense.

The Tottenham goalkeeper had ranked four players and had the top five places still free when Bale then popped up.

He opted to put Bale third. Meanwhile, Thibaut Courtois initially took top spot.

Second, fifth and seventh were still available when Liverpool star Mohamed Salah cropped up. And Vicario decided to rank Salah higher than Bale, giving the Egyptian the number two position.

Mohamed Salah’s longevity has been remarkable

Obviously, Vicario may have made big changes to the order by the time the 10 players came up. He was left disappointed when Lionel Messi became the final name with only the number seven spot available.

But Salah may well have been one to hold onto his position. The 31-year-old has been an incredible servant for Liverpool, scoring more than 200 goals for the Reds.

And he remains one of the Premier League’s best. Salah has bagged another 16 goals in the league this season to help Liverpool to the top of the table heading into this round of fixtures.

Salah is playing almost as well as he ever has done. And thus, it is hard to have many complaints with Vicario’s decision – even if Tottenham fans had other ideas.
