Report: Crystal Palace now line up "outstanding" £4m player as potential summer signing

Crystal Palace are now said to be lining up a summer move to reinforce one position which right now, doesn’t exactly need it.

Oliver Glasner will be braced for an exodus this summer at Crystal Palace, with multiple players likely to attract interest from other clubs.

But as well as long players he wants, there are likely to be outgoings that he’s happy about too.

It’ll be a real summer of change.

This change will be for the better too, with the squad Roy Hodgson managed needing an overhaul.

So it’s little surprise that Palace are lining up deals. The latest to be reported is one which shows forward planning.

Crystal Palace identified Seny Dieng as a target this summer

Amid all the different positions which Palace are keen on strengthening this summer, there is an acceptance that this list could yet get longer.

Now, according to The Telegraph, Palace have identified Middlesborough goalkeeper Seny Dieng as a target for this summer.

It comes amid concerns over one of Sam Johnstone or Dean Henderson leaving to find a guaranteed number one position.

Middlesborough are thought to want to double their £2m investment on Dieng, which could see him available for as little as £4m, an absolute steal considering how solid he is.

Johnstone seems the more likely goalkeeper to depart with Wolves having been interested earlier this year.

So Dieng would arrive as Henderson’s number two.

But who is Dieng and what would he bring to Selhurst Park?

Who is Seny Dieng?

Seny Dieng is a Senegal international with five caps for his country. Despite representing Senegal, he was actually born in Zurich, Switzerland.

It was at FC Zurich he began his career, before moving to Grasshoppers in 2013, from here he made a free transfer move to MSV Duisburg three years later.

He only lasted six months in Germany before QPR snapped him up, although he had to then go through a series of loan moves to lower England leagues and Scotland before establishing himself and earning labels such as “outstanding“.

Then last summer he moved to Middlesborough for £2m.

In his maiden season, he’s kept nine clean sheets and conceded 38 goals in 29 games.

He has a save percentage of 64.2 per cent which is decent, but has prevented -4.53 goals which is far from solid, and places him in the 15th percentile among his peers as per FotMob.

Unlikely he’s good enough to start regularly in the Premier League but a decent number two.
